I remember the first time I listened to this I absolutely hated it as I was just dipping my toes into the avant-garde aesthetic. Now that I can't actually somewhat understand what's going on, I absolutely love it. And I must say that Ms. Kopatchinskaja is the greatest interpreter of avant-garde music I've ever heard. She's amazing.

Yeah, this cadenza was actually written by the violinist, so it's full of quotes from other pieces. Really cool nonetheless!

My current viola teacher played in the orchestra for this with the New World Symphony and says it's probably the most difficult piece he's ever played. Just being in the orchestra for a crazy and Avant-Garde concerto like this even just once is my absolute dream.

Best violinist in 20th and 21th century. Forget Heifetz, Oistrakh, Szeryng, Zukerman, Perlman, Mutter, Zimmermann, Kavakos and Fischer. They were and are all very good violinists but she is the only violin genius in musical history. Bravissima, Patricia!
