@@Z12IT it is more likely Christianity managed to grow in the chaos. But it is hard to do 'what if' scenario's. There where many attempts to use Christianity to boost the Roman empire which arguably kept at least some of it (the east) alive for a long time. Indeed, respectfully, a note shall be made. Rome, as it is obvious, dominated a large portion of the "known" planet. Matter of fact. About Portugal (named "portus cale" - warm/pretty port), romans were there and, as it obvious, dominated them and imposing their way of life, language, laws and so on... Portugal, had at that time, an own language, but, it got blended to roman's one, resulting a portuguese language. Furthermore, this new blended language kept several details of anchient latin language. The same applies to spanish language, that, during roman domination, also got blended. Additionally, romenian, french and italian, composing these five languages the "latin root". Finally, just merely as curiosity, even german has a huge influence of latin (declination, for example), and, as consequence, english, who is a language of the "germanic root", is a blended language created by the "mixture" of the anchient anglo-celtic language and, the anchient german (by the invasion of germans - in this case, the saxons). Do you know that Iberia was part of the Roman Empire? moreover, do you know spanish and portuguese descend from latin and arab? continuing, do you know that most spanish and portuguese people are italic, descendants of roman settlers. Most of southern europe is roman and greek due to their expansions across the mediterranean. And before you say that latin america isn't roman due to the mix of the cultures and races with natives, must I remind you that rome did the same with the greeks in the balkans and the arabs in the levant region? being roman wasn't about ethnicity, language, it was about being a subject of the empire, that's why there were emperors from every corner of the empire. Rome didn't care about race, it cared about how civilized were the people they conquered, why do you think that celts became slaves while greeks were one of the higher caste in the empire? and now, as a south american (who has both spanish and italian blood running through his veins), I regret to inform you that as long we speak romance languages, use their laws and systems.
