I'm not saying "misinformation" I am saying alot of information left out. Correct arrow tuning goes in to alot greater effort and detail than just cutting a specific spine arrow an inch past your draw length and screwing a point of a certain weight on to it. You can start full length bare shaft, use several different point weights if you like and cut the arrows down to tune correctly (even with a specific point weight in mind) and get multiple spines to tune. Other wise you are just using a "general idea" of what someone else thinks will work out of your bow and restricted to the point weight they think they have figured out for your bow. This is with them not knowing even if your bow is center shot. The 2 main things I would tell a relative newcomer is 40#@27" is no where near the same animal as 40#@30" and will require an entirely different arrow. And number 2, You can get away with an improper spine and a field point... The same cannot be said for broadheads. Do your homework, understand the correct tuning principles and enjoy the success of knowing exactly what tunes to your bow.

So get this....I have a 51 pound longbow, and I got BE instincts in 600s at 28 3/4 inch length, with 300 grains on the end (head plus outsert) and I have those arrows flying great... I thought 600s would never work, boy was I wrong, worked out better then any 500 I tried...I am at a 28 inch draw...540 grains overall.

I know that feeling, I bumped up to 45# limbs, switched to 3under gap (after split for years) went from 31 inch 500s to 34inch 400s both had 125grn up front...yep them things fly like theyre on rails now. Arrows are Black Eagle vintage.

@@billcharlene1450 yeah see, and it's combos like that, that had me scratchin my head for years. I couldn't figure how you guys were getting .400s to work on Sub 40s, yet I was having trouble making a 500 work...did the long 500s for a while, but I discovered I didn't like a long arrow, so that's what lead me to try a shorter 600 and yep flying better then ever. I also recently switched to a bear weather rest...I'll never personally go back to off the shelf shooting again, I find it very forgiving, and with three under, it gives my arrow much more of a higher straight path, as oppose to the usual three under nock point with a drastic downward angle, and usually a bounce of the nock on the shelf.....vintage is a great arrow, I have to use the instincts for my longbow because my centercut puts that little thin arrow right under my eye, and goes right where I'm looking, but I actually prefer the vintages, hell of a tough arrow.

@TheHYENA87
@TheHYENA87 2 жыл бұрын
@@billcharlene1450 so with the simple ones, like the bear weather rest I haven't seen any down side, a plus is it pretty much eliminates you needing a device to hold your arrow while hunting, keeps it on there even with a good angle, arrow won't fall off...I'd say the only downside is you may need to adjust arrows, the rests create more offset so depending what your dealing with, it could be good or bad, I think this is one of the reasons I got these arrows to tune so well when they should be weak. But yes for three under shooters since it raises it. It almost makes the way you address the string more like split, which is a good thing, and yes raises your point slightly, I like the sight picture more, as I'm not seeing so much shaft, just my outsert on the end, which is what catches my eye in my peripheral.

You recommend serrated, single blade broadheads for light poundage with tip weight less than 200 grains? Thought I would use them this year for better blood trail. I like shooting arrows over 29” as I tend to guide the arrow to draw with my index finger to keep it on the shelf. Using axis 600’s and less front end weight to maintain flatter trajectory.

I've been getting those Gold Tip Warrior arrows, but I've been getting the 500 spine, and just recently today found our that that's too stiff for the recurves I'm using. Hi Jeff, I'm currently getting into Field & Hunter with shots up to 80 yards & then there are Animal rounds with distances up to 60 yards. My matched (paper test) arrow set up is 5/16 equivalent ID 6.2, Skylon Edge, 800 spine, 29 inches (Inc to nock tip with a 75 grain screw in tip plus aluminium, 10gn, insert. 3 four inch feathers, My best performing arrows weigh in at 254grn. These fly straight & true to my aim even at distance and are forgiving of many of my errors. I have plans to test some 80gn glue in points. I shoot a 35lb (33lb at my draw length) Twin (a deliberate purchase, I enjoy the traditional offset sight-line while taking advantage of modern design & materials), Trad. Recurve (Ireland IFAF (IFAA) - I think the USA has a slightly different definition of what that means?) take down bow. The gold tip warriors are available here in Ireland & I have used them. Currently, they are difficult to get as 800 spine here. I also have a set with 800 Predators 80gr tips, they weigh in at 272grn. I can't make them any lighter. Maybe cutting down the points insert into the carbon shaft manually (as opposed to the existing standard 120gn, 100gn, 80gn, snap off). I don't know if that is safe? In any case, they're an OD of 6.2
