Great podcast (eventhough I watched it after the fact on KZfaq). Looking forward to this expansion even more than the last couple. Strikes are essentially the same system as raids, they're even completely sealed off from the open world as raids are. I would dump Strikes as well for integrated raids since you're unable to properly integrate Strikes in the open world due to how they function. ANet went to Strikes since then at least they could reuse assets that they had used before. The issue is that people only need to have interaction with a Strike once and then never again if they so desire. This results in the assets still being wasted. Properly integrating it in the open world justifies ANet spending time and resources on their development since people will engage with the raid in both the story and in the course of normal play. How I think the raid will be implemented is that it will be a "buffer"" zone between the second and the third map. The narrative about the open-world version will be that the players are forcing their way into a new land and their forrays get rebuked every time until the second release after the main JW, and then there'll be an instance portal that takes you to the raid right next to the area. At least that's how I hope ANet will integrate it into the game.

Listening to Peachy talk about the Open World version of the Raid Wing 8, and the story attached to the Raid, it made me think about all of the great story content contained in the original dungeons, and how new players so often have their 1st dungeon experience in GW2 ruined, because they join a group of veterans who only speed run the dungeons, instead of the new player doing the story mode for that dungeon first. I can't tell you how many new players have had a terrible first experience with GW2 dungeons, and some have quit the game because of it. I don't expect Arenanet to fix the old dungeon code at this point, but if there was a different way for them to present dungeons to the new players, I think it would help avoid the terrible first experiences I have just described. The mail that new players receive to introduce them to dungeons, just isn't doing enough to explain how dungeons work, and how new players can avoid joining veteran speed runs. Sorry that this is a bit off topic.

This game badly needs to unify Raids and Strikes into a single 10-man instance content format (rules, rewards structure, etc), and the same for all 5-man instance content (Fractals, Dungeons, DRMs). A game that's over a decade old should take feature bloat seriously as it has a huge impact on user acquisition and user retention. Us old GW2 farts have internalized a lot of this bloat already but it's a massively intimidating and frankly arcane and frustrating hurdle for newcomers. If ArenaNet is smart, user generated homestead presets/layouts/loadouts will be available at release. There will be a significant demographic of players who will grind and pay for furniture and decorations who won't engage with the feature because as much as they want a nice looking homestead to call their own, they can't be bothered to think about HOW to decorate it. Enabling such a feature will spawn an entire generation of content creators who will be generating layouts. This happened in Genshin with their Sereniteapot feature, I'm confident this will also happen in GW2.

I love how cis men always say "MY baby was born" or "I just had a baby", like it's not their and their partner's shared baby and as if it just appeared and wasn't birthed under a lot of pain and health risk by their parter. 😆
