I have been keeping an eye on Kove in general, and I do have a particular interest in the arrival of the Kove 800X Super Adventure.
I am still hoping this is the closest thing yet to the bike I have been waiting years for.
A lighter more truly off road capable adventure bike that weighs less than a horse.
Will it be the lightest of all the highway capable ADV bikes?
I have set up a backup channel called bareboones backup linked below

i remember a story, these new Japanese companies started to sell into the British market, the long established British companies called them names and said they were crap, Those same British companies sat on their laurels smugly, thinking there is no way they will sell here. The rest is history shall we say. You would think the Japanese would know better, but they dont seem to care anymore.

So, after 3 year of riding a GS1200 and throughly enjoying it, I promised myself something lighter, more nimble, more fun on the trails. I'd decided on either a Kove 450, or a DR650 and throw some money at it.......The DR won. The Kove was too focused. Anyway move forward to today and I think the DR may be a stop gap until the 800X arrives😊. Mind you the mind is willing, the body now relies on ibuprofen 😂 Great commentary as always BareBones and many thanks. Stay safe and keep it the right way up👍

if the PR7 had rear pegs i would be tempted to go that way, but it doesnt, I have been considering buying a bike to use in Spain and leaving it there, so I have been looking at the Reiju Aventura and the Macabor Montana, the Montana is a Kove 500 in a Spannish dress, but the Aventura looks an interesting bike, Huge fuel tank and rangec, and most Spannish roads make a 500cc bike plenty 🙂

As for Kove's Dakar attempt this year... Think about it. Fang is a novice in Dakar, relatively speaking, so Kove only intended to let him absorb some experience this time; as for the other three veteran factory riders, Sunier suffered a severe bone fracture in late November 2023, therefore realistically he wouldn't be as competitive (though he did manage to complete the whole race like a man of steel, hats off to him); Xavier retired early due to a crash; this left their goal of reaching top 20 entirely to Neels, and having only 1 competitive racer means the tiniest amount of bad luck would result in a screw-up. And it did happen. Considering these and that Mason's new version of the 450 Rally would inevitably suffer some reliability issues at its debut, especially when ridden with an aggresive style, actually Kove did reasonably well.

Many hurdles for Kove getting one of these to world markets: establishing dealer networks, changing western pereceptions of Chinese manufacturing, and that is before future supply issues are contemplated. But good on Kove for attempting such a bold project - to produce the lightweight, twin-cylinder ADV bike so many of us want. The best part of Kove's achievements at this stage may be their project putting pressure on the larger established makers from Japan and Europe to also work on making their 'middleweight' models lighter, and thereby more manageable in the tighter situations we may be nervous about taking our heavier current models. In my case a new Transalp, which is a surpisingly good machine for its price really, but still rather heavy in comparison with this Kove's CLAIMED weights. I chose the Transalp in spite of some reservations, primarily for its relative weight compared to, say, the 800DE Suzuki, but this Kove claims the size and weight of my old air-cooled Cagiva Elefant 750, which provides something for the other makers to aim for. If it indeed comes in well under the weight of the rather sublime (but expensive in Australia) Aprilia Tuareg, they will have pulled off quite an achievement. We will wait with interest to see how the final version arrives in western markets!

KOVE is the best mass produced ralley bike in the world . I really want one but short of the bike "Tinkerbell" dropping one on my doorstep, it isn't happening. Same for the 800. Sadly, I could, and would sell a ton of these for KOVE just by exposure and my referral. (I've been riding for over 50 years mostly on Enduro and Dual-sport bikes) and was a decent racer in the past. At 67 years of age I would gladly ride the 450 or 800 in full China People's Republic regalia. I like being quietly different anyway. Good report.

hmm, ok, ill defer if thats true, Im not a metallurgist to be fair, but i have seen many more snapped and cracked alloy footpegs than i have ever seen steel ones. Ive got a box of old bent up steel pegs from tree stumps and boulders (theyll come in useful at some point even if that is welded up into a lamp stand lol) , and not one alloy one. Most of the alloy ones snap off at the mounting point and right or wrong, i put that down to the fact that they just dont have the shear strength of steel. How could you mention KTM 890 and BMW GS as competitors without also mentioning Tenere 700? It's a much closer fit in terms of power, weight, and apparent off-road chops, plus of course the Aprilia Taureg 660 and more tenuously the 650/750 Honda Transalp. I'll be watching Kove but at that price point they'll need to do some serious trust building to escape the shadow of all the preceding fly-by-night bike brands coming out of there.

cheers, what it means, is if the rear subframe gets bent the bike is a write off, if its bolt on, you can simply replace the rear subfame, big bikes roll over off road, it is inevitable, and one big rock in the wrong place is all it takes. welding it on is cheaper, and arguably a bit lighter, but that is marginal, bolt on to me is always the better option, and on an ADV bike for me may well be the deal breaker

The West are extremely crafty at pretending our companies can't afford to produce stuff and while they shovel climate change and Slavery down our throats, they set up shop in the far east were workers are paid buttons.

projected was about £9 in the UK and the Benelli comes in around £7 but im not sure with the weight difference its a fair comparison. as you are obviously an owner, do you have a gross vehicle weight on the benelli? or a load weight? that is where the Kove's weak point is, it is rated for a 150kg load, so i could take a passenger OR luggage, but not both unless im prepared to overload a bike with a welded subframe (is the 702 a welded or bolt on rear subframe? also, prices are on a downward spiral here right now, new bike sales on everything except 400's and under are down big time, so the dealers keep cutting prices

The engine isn't being built by CF Moto (KTM's manufacturer) it is derived from the same design, but it is built by Keeway group i believe. unless they are friends in China, they arent talking about the 800X, so far ive not heard many confirmed problems on the 450 either. there are lots of people who tell stories, but few that can actually be substantiated. talk to people who have actually owned the bikes. in the description their is a link to a review. the guy has one in China and is running it hard, ask him for his opinions, and look at his riding. talk to people on the channels who are riding the 450 Rally, they will talk about the faults, but there arent many faults so far. hope that helps

Ive spent a fair bit of time researching these bikes and using translation through google. Pretty sure the rally suspension is fast ace, the 799cc engine is a KTM cline made by ZF-KYMCO (ZF-KY stickers and engine case stamps) even though distributors will tell you its built in-house by Kove. The standard is 30,000 Yuan in china (around AUD$6000) yet the rally is going to land is Australia at over AUD$20,000 from what I can gather, if it passes ADR here. Its a shame that its going to be so expensive as I'm keen to ride a rally model, but even with a soec sheet that a unicorn wrote, with no dealer network, parts availability and technical support on par with established manufacturers, I cannot justify the price and the resale loss when for a few thousand more I can buy an Africa Twin or Even a KTM890 or a load of other proven motorcycles. But I will still test ride one if they come just to satisfy my curiosity.

you must be getting the T7 a lot cheaper than we do then mate, You are talking £9600 for the base model here, so a little more than the price being quoted for the Kove, but we wont know till it lands. So much depends on import tarriffs and importer/distributer network costs. They arent really an untested brand either, theyve been selling under numerous brand names in various markets since 2017. Their 500X and their newer 525/510X have often been described as the bike the CB500X could have been too. Macbor have a good reputation in Spain and the Hunter Maverick has quite a cult following in Indonesia and has sold in Australia too if I hear right.
