Learn how to light night-time exterior environments. No RTX needed!
The first 1,000 people to use this link will get a 1 month free trial of Skillshare: skl.sh/williamfaucher02221
Lighting night time scenes is tricky, but fortunately, with the help of decades of cinematography tricks to work with, we can break down how movies are lit, and apply those tricks to our own 3D environments. The fundamentals are the same, so it doesn't really matter which renderer you're using. I want to clarify that there are HUNDREDS of ways to light things, and this is only one way to do that. Feel free to share your own approach in the comments!
You'll soon realize that moonlight is a fickle beast, but it can be tamed, and faking it, tricking the audience into believing something through good lighting is key.

Of course, UE5 Preview was released THE DAY I upload this video, which addresses some of my concerns I had about using UE5 at the time of recording this tutorial. Please disregard what I said about UE5 and foliage *sigh*.
@Suthriel
@Suthriel 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, was curious, about when you will discover UE5s release ^.^ Preview also have this interesting looking feature of Local Exposure in the Post Process Volume, that seems to help for cases, where you have really bright and really dark places in the same frame (like outside looking into a darker room or cave).

Is this preview like a new version of UE5? I saw the article in the EG launcher but nothing to download : )) I am so lost in this UE universe, used to Houdini's version installs and content.
@WilliamFaucher
@WilliamFaucher 2 жыл бұрын
@@karolinasereikaite8233 You need to go to the epic launcher, go to library, click the + to add a new version, then choose which version you want to install. The reason its so convoluted is that it’s just a preview build, not an official final build

Not only are you one of the few people making content at the intersection of film and UE, you do an amazing job of it. Lighting is one of the things I’ve been working hardest on (both real time and cinematic renders) and all your tutorials have been invaluable. Thank you so much for what you do, I’m excited to see what amazing things you can do in UE5, cheers!

Great video, William! I noticed that you used the details panel to move a few objects in the scene - in case you didn't know, you can also move objects without clicking the transform gizmo by clicking and dragging in the viewport: Ctrl + LMB (X-axis), Ctrl + RMB (Y-axis), Ctrl + LMB + RMB (Z-axis). This also works for rotating and scaling. It takes some time to get used to, but I've found it to be super useful when moving objects while looking through a locked camera. I never click the gizmo anymore :D
