4:04, so you are suggesting any rtx 3060 is a better bet( in terms of price & performance) vs any 4060? Correct me, if wrong. I am putting up a query as I am planning and building up funds to get a pc configuration for video editing, color grading, compositing, vfx, 3d simulation and 3d rendering for arch viz. That's my requirement, I need a pc for.
@WilliamFaucherКүн бұрын
Yes, I'd take a 3060 12gb over 8gb 4060. The 4060 is a faster card but the limited vram won't be great.

My setup has a R5 5600 with 16GB of RAM and my GPU is a RX 7900XTX underclocked to 2000MHz and i get around 50FPS in the viewport at cinamatic settings but stick to epic as i get 30+ FPS for a small impact to image quality, and also because the viewport is not what you should be tring to look good but the renders. the reason i have it underclocked is because my room gets to hot.

Hey! I came across this video and on the limitations I wanted to ask you, is VAT something that would work with path tracer on 5.3 at the moment? I am trying to use it with a simulation from Houdini and I run accross problems with the lights when using path tracing on VAT (the faces on the geo are not correctly lit, they appear black, even if the shadows against other objects look good) Thanks!

Hi William, First of all: Easy Mapper is a really useful and super handy plugin. Currently, I'm having the problem that I need to rotate a world aligned texture by 90 degrees. Can you tell me how to do that?
@WilliamFaucher2 күн бұрын
There's no support for rotation at this time, because it breaks the normal map projection in many angles unfortunately

Thank you so so much for this William! Sharing your knowledge really helps us a lot with our journey! I am now finally adding post processing out of Unreal in my workflow, and I can say that I've been missing out on so much! I shouldn't have prolonged learning this. I thought it was enough to post process in Unreal, but post processing in DaVinci Resolve is so much more powerful and efficient!

I think we've largely come to a point of diminishing returns when it comes to resolution. 8k tv's do exist but there is just no content being made for that, 4k is the sweetspot when it comes to films and streaming, and even then a lot of people cant tell a difference between HD and 4k when sitting far back enough anyway

@WilliamFaucher3 күн бұрын
I'm not saying they aren't good, but for 3D usage, they have never once been considered at any studio I've ever worked at because AMD GPU's have always been plagued with a variety off random issues, driver or otherwise. I'm sure they work fine for a lot of people, but I haven't used them in 15 years for this reason.

Apologies for the unclear message - I respect you tremendously and you have helped me a lot in the Unreal journey! - back to the Issue: All the foliage in my scene becomes nearly completely black after applying the fix you suggested for Ambient occlusion, completely not sure why. I am using one of mossy boulders from Quixel. Everything else in the scene seems ok, just the foliage becomes broken. What helped me with ambient occlusion was setting these two commands: r.lumen.DiffuseIndirect.SSAO 1 r.lumen.ScreenprobeGather.ShortRangeAO 0 after these I was able to control ambient occlusion from the post process v. Let me know if you know what might be case with these stones!

Hey William, just purchased this product today and after following this guide I was able to do some pretty cool stuff in Unreal 5.4.1. The puddles took a bit to figure out but once I did they are really cool. I have been debating whether or not I need to purchase Substance Painter and with this tool I really don't think I need to for what I'm trying to accomplish. Although I enjoy learning, I really just want to focus on creating new content and not have to dive into all the complexities of material creation. Your product makes that possible. Thank you for offering at such an affordable price. I'm sure it took many hours to create (and more to support) and so it's a real gift to the community!

Awesome tool but the biggest downer for me is the ARD input. Coming from Cinema 4D and Maya, none of my megascans textures or asset textures have ARD maps. I've never heard of them before and even when I google search them there is very little info. Is there a way to easily separate them into their own respective inputs to place my maps individually?
@WilliamFaucher3 күн бұрын
You can! There was an update a few months ago, you can add non ARD maps ;) the regular way
@WilliamFaucher3 күн бұрын
And for what it's worth, ARD isn't a file format or a type of map. It's just a texture with a 3 individual greyscale maps packed into separate channels for better memory efficiency. You can make your own in photoshop easily. Almost all megascans surfaces use this approach. But like I said, you don't need ARD specifically, I added a new toggle in EasyMapper in order to allow regular greyscale maps, the like you are used to.

does displacement work with pathtracing in 5.4?
@WilliamFaucher4 күн бұрын
No, pathtracing does not work with Nanite. Displacement uses nanite tessellation, therefore, no pathtracer support. This is shown in the video here ☺️

I do alot of work with in0game capture footage. Should I be capturing my footage in game with motion blur turned on, or should I capture dry and add motion blur in post? thanks, I'm still learning and trying to find the best ways to make this footage look as cinematic as possible, in my editing software.
@WilliamFaucher4 күн бұрын
If it's truly in-game capture you're after, then I'd keep motion blur on. Adding it in post is unlikely to look very good unless you are also rendering motion vectors. And if you're doing that, you might as well just render everything properly anyway, in which case it is no longer in-game capture, it's just pre-rendered.

Bro how do you make your renders look so realistic, I'm skreching my head, i cant make it look realistic when i create my own landscpes, daylight, why??
@WilliamFaucher4 күн бұрын
Haha I don't think there is any specific button or setting, it's all a combination of lots of things, lighting, composition, light, shadows, color grading, each aspect contributes to the final result in small but meaningful ways

Amazing video ! So would you say that the choice between Nanite and Path Tracing will be linked to the size of your environment ? Like, this set is pretty small because you've been careful on your set dress based on what the camera is seeing, so you went for Path Tracing. But if we decide to work on a large scale environment, it will be almost impossible to work on it without Nanite, so we'll have to go to Lumen for the final render ? (more or less) lol thanks
