@BenJohnson I know your CONTENT is BTS for creators but you have a phenomenal understanding of “how to” communicate lighting! If I want to apply the same principals of 3 point lighting, color temps and stuff but my goal is not necessarily to shoot a video, rather the goal is to make the apartment look like a moody scene from a movie lol “permanently”. How do you recommend one achieves this goal? SHOULD the same principals be applied? Which light and fixture do you suggest as a key light? LOL imagine
@benjohnsoncreative
@benjohnsoncreative 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! Not something I can easily answer in a comment, but know that if it’s from a movie it’s highly controlled and there are many factors that make it look moody. The color grade, the focal length, the angles, etc To achieve a moodier look in person It’s about having less of your main light and more accent lighting Try leaving ceiling lights off, and start by using lamps etc

Your claim, that Daylight color temperature would help to reproduce red and pink colors. Can you proof or show it? I thought, that using gray card for the correct color setting in the camera and color balance card for correcting the final colors, are making the same result at any color light conditions with high CRI. Thank you!
@benjohnsoncreative
@benjohnsoncreative Жыл бұрын
The grey card is handy when shooting in uncontrolled situations and when you’re trying to match your light to a rooms ambient colors etc When you have full control over all the lights you can set the relationship between the light and camera as you want Just go experiment with it, you’ll see how it starts to shift and such (This is also talking specifically for color rgb led lighting) I have examples of this and much more in my lighting course you can check out here: www.learnvideolighting.com

What kind of stand do you use for the lights? Would I need to buy those separately?

Hi ben which is better to purchase the neewer 660 LED dimmable Or the neewer 660 LED dimmable via app control? One model has app control and one doesn't. Which is better? Thanks

Are you using the same settings without the color background (in the office you shot this video in?)

I Ben ! Thanks for this (very) interesting video. I just bought the light for my studio, but I have a white background. I tried and the light, depending on the color, does not diffuse as much as yours. Do you think the background color has a huge impact ? Thanks for your answer !

It definitely could. White doesn’t allow for as much saturation

Hi Ben, great content as usual. Do you need a key light if you're sitting right in front on your monitors? Seems like the monitors cast a fair amount of light on me and my experiments with key lights thus far result in too bright of a scene. Thanks.

You can use your computer screen but it probably won’t be as soft or flattering

With the RGB lights, I Have an issue where if I choose any color than red, green, or blue I get a strobe effect because of the interaction between color blending and shutter speed. Do you have any recommendations about camera settings ( I use a Canon m50) to compensate for tjis?

Yes, chances are the particular lights you are using are not flicker free. You definitely need to shoot at the proper frame rate and shutter speed combo. I talk about that in my free camera settings course and it should help: supersimplecamerasettings.com

How would any of this change if I have a big window in the room?

I'd put up a blackout curtain so that you have full control of the light in the room

Please help. I have followed everything in this video and it looks good except my face seems to pick up the colour. If I do red especially my face seems to be red even though there is space between me and the back wall… x

Sometimes you can get light spill from the red reflecting from walls around your room Also, skin complexions have red, hello, and magenta tones that the lights could be amplifying I’d try experimenting with your white balance to cool it some, and depending on hour editing software you could potentially color grade it to fix it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mdKantyY1p6re3k.html
