Honestly, mate, this video is amazing! My Uni gives me these others based on older versions of Maya which do an alright job, but these show a level of artistry way beyond those! I look forward to seeing more of your work as time goes on, especially if there are more videos on lighting. Keep being awesome!

Brent you're a lifesaver, I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my area light is so weak it's barely visible, simply turning off normalize and voila it actually finally works properly, always the way - one little tick box.

Real world scale. So are you assuming the grid units are meters or cm?
@BrentLeBlancCG
@BrentLeBlancCG 5 жыл бұрын
I suppose I should clarify, what you should do is pick a scale and stick with it for everything. You can always rebalance your lights to the scale of your scene, but I've always gotten good results setting the scene scale to cm, then adjusting my grid so that it shows Meter Squares, 10 cm Squares and then 1 cm squares. There is really no "right" way to do it, just maybe best practices. I worked at a studio for almost a decade that had its own scale preferences that were not at all world scale, but everything was consistent across their entire asset library. However, when you are trying to match real footage with camera focal lengths and light intensities I think its advisable to pick something like cm or meters and model objects accordingly. When you are modeling furniture or similar objects you can usually find blue prints or dimensions listed and would be very easy for you to match if you are using proper scene scales. Good luck!
