lighting Requirements for a trailer in the UK and Europe
www.towingandtrailers.com/
There have been laws in the UK and Europe for many years starting in the 1960's regarding the lights that are required on a trailer.
In 1990 these were updated then again when type approval was brought in.
The lighting requirements have not altered much over the years the main changers were reflectors and front markers were updated in 1990, when type approval was launched around 2010 reverse lamps were added for 02 (trailers with brakes).
All lights fitted to a trailer need to have an E marking on them. The E markings mean it has meet the approvals for this specific type of lamp, with the correct light spread and intensity.
As lights have not changed much over the years I tend to use the current manual for an IVA inspection. In this manual there are all the measurements from the ground for minimum and maximum heights, maximum distances from the side of the trailer.
This manual can be found on our IVA information page at.
