Your videos are always what I need, it seems that we have the fate of mentor and apprentice. In less than a month since I purchased the Z9, I have purchased five lenses and taken more than a thousand photos. Was looking for a photo management tutorial, and here's your video! Thanks again, my master.

No one (that I know of) ever suggests using Stacks to organize images. For example, I have thousand of portrait images: children, men, women, surreal portraits, etc.). If I have 1000 portraits of women, using "portrait" as a keyword brings up every one of the examples mentioned, including men, children, etc.. So instead, I create a separate stack for each of the categories noted above. In addition, I create a graphic denoting the category in question, such as "Portraits of Women, Portraits of Teens, Portraits of Men," etc., which serves as the cover thumbnail for each category. This method also extends to Landscapes, Still Lifes, Flowers, Wallpapers, Food, and so forth. In effect, I'm compartmentalizing specific subjects into sub-categories. This is not to say I don't use keywords at all, but I can then open the stack of a specific category and do a search from within that category alone, rather than searching through an entire catalog for a specific image. In the category of Children, for example, I can search for blondes, smiles, sad, happy, etc. Just a suggestion.

I begun using keywords years ago as you show in the video and came to a mess of hundreds of items with a lot of similar keywords etc. Recently I started organizing my keyword list in a hierarchy with master categories (such as place, subject, ...) and sub-categories (for instance putting the keyword for a specific species of bear species under "Bear" keyword. Is a huge effort I'm still working on but I see the light at the and of the tunnel and applying keywords to new images has begun easier and consistent. Would like to know your approach with that.
@tv510

Hi Mauro, I gravitate to more collections both smart and regular to keep each catalog organized. The keywords are great idea and work fantastic if you have one large catalog. That way a simple text search can find whatever you want. Your keyword organization idea sound fantastic.

You explain things very clearly. I followed your video about creating catalogues but it would be helpful to show how how you find the photos again. Do you open the hardrive and then open the LR catalogue as all my photos on the HD have been put in to folders based on date taken by LR automatically . These folders seem to sit outside of the Gorst Catalogue. Or do you open them in LR? If so I cant find them at all. I am a little confused🙂
@tv510
@tv510 Жыл бұрын
Make sure that when you are loading new images, that they go into the main folder where all of you images reside. Those should all be on a removable hard drive. (backed up to a second drive). As long as they are in the one main folder - you can always find them. When you open your catalog, all of those images should propagate. If you are having little exclamation points show up on your images while in the catalog, let me know.

Easily understood thank you. I have tried to find out via books and and various videos how to delete words from the Keywording Panel itself without deleting them from the Keyword List. Any clues please?
@tv510
@tv510 11 ай бұрын
Here's is how I have done that; In the Keyword Set, use the pull down where is says custom, at the bottom is says Edit Set. It's in this panel that I can delete a keyword or fix a mis-spelling (which is typical for me 😀) Not sure this helps you, but it's the way I work with the lists. Thanks for watching.

I do this and also while adding keywords I add captions, titles and location to my metadata. This helps not only with searching for photos I also can setup slide show in LR and have the caption or title and location show up on the slide. Maybe another tutorial idea for you Terry- slide show.

As a newbie to lightroom, I find your videos the best. Newbie question, does LRC have a means to search all catalogs at once. Say you want to search all Cooper's Hawks over the past year. They are in different catalogs. Will the search pull all of them?
@tv510
@tv510 7 ай бұрын
No, LRC can only search one catalog. This is why I make one catalog (per year) and then organize by collections. So a search all photographs will result in searching the entire catalog.

Although English is not my native language, (Dutch is) I can follow your video's very good. Thank you for making them! They are very instructive. I have one question: to make a photobook I export the foto's from LRC to another file in my computer. Do I have to import them again in LRC to keep my catalogue complete?
@tv510
@tv510 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. When making an export, it’s like making a copy of your images. They will all still remain in your catalog. However, sometimes if I am making a book and there are multiple images to a page, I may re-import those PAGES of the book,(all JPEGS). back into LRC, just to keep all the pages that I created.

@@elswillems855 Yep, its the same image. An export essentially is a copy of the image in your catalog. Good luck!

I have over 12,000 photos (over approx 10 years) that I would like to bring into Lightroom and categorize into folders. I don't want to pull them in until I have a plan of organizing them. Is there a way that lightroom can help me to at least sort these out initially? Thank you for the very easy to understand videos.
@tv510
@tv510 11 ай бұрын
I don’t know an easy way, but what I would do is make a new folder inside, put a new LRC catalog, import all 12000 do everything is in the same folder. Catalog and images . Copy that folder to backup somewhere, then make collections and keywords to sort all the images. It will take some time but you will be happy when it’s done. And it won’t take 10 years. 😄
