2:37 That’s actually an E39 socket. E12 is candelabra. The reason it takes so many clicks is because it is designed for a 3-way bulb. A 3-way bulb has two filaments inside instead of one. Those two filaments are of two differing wattages and they are connected to separate contacts on the base. The first click of the switch connects only the lower-wattage filament, the second click connects the higher-wattage filament, and the third click connects both. That way, you get three levels of light. If a regular bulb is installed, its bottom contact will not touch with the contact in the socket that would be connected to the lower-wattage filament in a 3-way bulb, so it will no operate on the low setting, but it will operate on medium and high modes, of course with only one brightness setting. For this reason, the bulb requires two clicks to turn on or off.

Doh... yes E39! You are correct, oops on my part!! I did not know about the 3 way! I'm familiar with 3 way bulbs but didn't know the fixture can be designed for them! We have a few lamps that take multiple clicks so they must all be designed for that. Learn something new every day!
