Like at least the cutter, it's the only big tool in the video unless a drill is considered a big tool, the stuff in the background are just tape and wrenches and brushes. All I'm saying is just don't be intimidated by the stuff in the background, the rest of the stuff he uses you can literally get at any Hardware store or Home Depot.

I've wanted to build one of these types of "stunt sabers" for years. I've seen many tutorials on KZfaq from the very basic (i.e. plastic tube on a high powered flashlight) to the more advanced with high lumen leds and soundboards. This is possibly the most plausible design I've ever seen. No I don't have access to a soldering iron and a band-saw however a decent soldering iron and the solder itself isn't expensive and though it might take more time, all the modifications you made could be done with a hacksaw and a file. May have to try this build down the road myself.
@DIYGene
@DIYGene 5 жыл бұрын
You could do it with just a hacksaw. The leads are so simple you could just use clip on connectors and get the job done.(No solder required) I hope you will give it a try. It's a fun project. Thanks for watching.

He built his son a lightsaber for Christmas...coolest dad ever! "Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough but your uncle wouldn't allow it. He was afraid you would follow old Obi Wan on some "damn fool idealistic crusade" like your father did. This is your father's lightsaber, it is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsey or random as a blaster. An elegant weapon from a more civilized age".

I find that, although having your own custom built lightsaber is hard work, it all pays off in the end. I think I will reference this video when I go to make my own. I would just ask if you could make one for me, but then everyone would want that. This lightsaber you made for your son is very special to the both of you. Congratulations on a job well done.

great build. for the grip i use bicycle tube, cut it to size and turn it inside out to hide the lettering. that way i don't have to deal with a seam

Awesome video! My brother and I are attempting to make our own, we had two questions for you: how did you secure the blade with the machine nuts, and to clarify did you use tape to fill the gap between the blade and hilt? Thanks for making the video, this is so sick, especially after the movie's been released!
@DIYGene
@DIYGene 4 жыл бұрын
Rey Ravi , I did use tape to make the blade so tight it olds well. Then I drilled the holes for the machine screws tight and let them thread into the hilt. I just put out a new video on building Rey’s lightsaber and it may show you a little better. Here is the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/adqUlNSKutWbaKs.html Thanks for watching.

Anyone know any more powerful LEDs I can pair with either more batteries or a bigger one. I saw 144 neopixel light strips but they need a lithium ion battery that if not handled correctly can explode or melt or catch fire and I just want a good solid super bright blade
@saltiest_ocean1839
@saltiest_ocean1839 5 жыл бұрын
Try adding more strips. Use a 1/4" dowel rod and add about 3 to 4 strips. Then solder all the right connections together and it should be brighter. If not, I apologise. It's just a thought I had.

Awesome!!!!!! I can see how much u love your son. I made my son the master sword from Zelda for Christmas last year. Now I'm working on the staff from the children's movie, Jack Frost. It's for my 3 year old nephew. I'm sort of new to the LEDS and only know very basic skills. Thank you for your tutorial, it was extremely helpful. God bless!

I'm looking to build the same concept of Lightsaber but using a 12v 5050 analog LED strip. Could I hook up two 9 volt bateries to make it shine close to the original 12v? Thanks.

Drake Alexander that is exactly what I did. I was concerned about the 12v but the 9v battery worked great on it. Lights great! And the battery life is awesome.

Gene Cavasos DIYGene Hello. Is yours a 5050 LED? Because the come at lower lumens (don't remember the number) and they vary from 10 or more lumens for LED down to 2 or 3 lumens. Would two 9v in series burn the strip? PS: I'm looking to do 35" x2 (and maybe x3) 70" or 105" of the strip. Thanks.
