Are we basically good people who occasionally make bad choices, or does the problem of sin go much deeper? In this message, Michael Reeves presents the biblical view of sin recovered in the Reformation that drives us to rely on Christ alone for salvation.

Without you Jesus I Am nothing! HEAVENLY Father please give me strength. These past three years have been difficult on me and my children. At times I feel so alone especially as a single mother both of my sons are autistic and now that I’m homeschooling them my hours to work are limited. I’m still struggling to support my children and I’m so ashamed. But even as I struggle to pay rent and I struggle to buy groceries. I KEEP FAITH in you LORD. Lord hear my prayers I’m so overwhelmed and discouraged. I LOVE YOU JESUS SAVE ME FROM THIS CYCLE OF POVERTY I’ve been facing. Please keep me encouraged because I want to give up. Lord hear my prayers. ❤

Great message. I loved the explanation of our desires holding our will prisoner to sinner. It is the gospel message that transforms our desires which in turn frees our will to love God. Thank you Jesus.

Works based efforts lead to outer pride and inner despair. How do you know if/when all your efforts have made you righteous? You never know. Grace based faith leads to a heart of stone being made into flesh, and a heartfelt relational change in disposition to God. We don't tell people, once they're adults, to work their way into adulthood. We tell them, here's the point you are an adult, now act like it. God tells us at what point we're saved, and to then act like it. You can't work yourself into salvation no more than you can work yourself into adulthood.

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness's are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Isaiah 64:6 The only righteousness that God will be pleased with is Jesus Christ's. Not any of mans. Quit trusting in yourself and if you want to be saved from your sins simply believe that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ alone. Jesus's sacrifice is enough for anyone to be saved.

According to Dr. Reeves (at 2:07 minutes) Aristotle said "we become righteous by dog righteous deeds". But if he reads Scripture he should read in 1 John 3:7 (ESV): "Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he [Christ] is righteous."

Aristotle was a great philosopher. However Paul was a greater one. For in the gospel is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

@@bernhardbauer5301 The point I wanted to raise is according to Scripture (1 Jo. 3:7) whoever does righteousness is righteous. In contrast Luther reversed the order.

Aristotle, Luther, Erasmus and the gospelS. Paul gives us The Gospel. He calls The Gospel his Gospel. Paul doesn't know GospelS. There is only one Gospel, Gods Gospel, the Gospel about His Son, Jesus Christ. Was there a reformation? The katholic church remained as it was. There was no reformation, but a church splitting. Perhaps the preacher will come to the Gospel in his next session.

Maybe you should listen to the session and recognize that the Gospel of Christ was preached and this was about a man coming to the realization of it and not coming up with his own version. Luther's struggle was due to the fact that he was falling a false Gospel of works from a well of unrighteousness. It is by the living water of Christ alone that cleanses us and gives us new life to live righteously.

@@banemaler No. Not by living water. But by the precious blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I fear this preacher is a Calvinist. John Calvin was a murderer.

@@banemaler We are cleaned by the blood. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin. It is the BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST His Son which cleanses us from all sin.

@@bernhardbauer5301 I think you are missing the point of the works that Luther was seeking to do. It was his assumption that he could work toward his righteousness but yes he needed to be saved by the blood that covers all sin, so that he could be freed to do those good works which comes from the outpouring (living waters) of the Holy Spirit. So it is a belief in the true Gospel that will inevitably produce the good works brought about by the spirit filled life.

Martin Luther was right. And God and Jesus were right. Sin does not send you to hell. There's not one scripture that says everybody has to go to hell because they sin. Adam and Eve were never bound for hell.

@@sierragrey7910 My bad. There is a hell. Those who love sin go to hell. Telling a lie does not make you a liar. Loving to lie makes you a liar. The elite Christians have been tricked by Satan. That's okay. He has nothing to do with whether you go to hell or have it or not. It's a choice we make. And that's what the Bible says
