It’s not a choice of what you want to believe, but more so an expectation. How can one have faith and belief when they do not know what it is that they are believing?

It looks like he didn’t understand that saying you are the “Allah” ie God of something even metaphorically is not allowed in Islam. You hear commonly people saying He is the God of Rap or Basketball etc. This is not allowed in Islam. He may have still be a beginner in learning his faith more clearly and his uncles corrected him on that point. As for his personal journey to what makes him believe in Islam; we would need to research more but it looks like it could be the nature of God in Islam where he is truly One with no equivalent.
