100% the thing that makes Jin hard is that he has everything, and it takes a good player to utilise it. Anyone that tries to downplay the potential with this character is on a copium ventilator.

I think Jin in the hands of a good player is pretty terrifying. Most folk just flowchart with him, or pick him to abuse his parry and low sweep (people use it like an unseeable snake edge), and you can figure those people out pretty easily. But those players with good fundamentals? Who can use all his tools effectively? I'm scared to fight those guys haha.

I play many characters and of them Jin is easily the most versatile. Success with Jin scales very well with knowledge and experience. He gives you very little for free, making him hard on beginners, but rewards greatly after hard work is invested in understanding Tekken and Jin’s tools.

Jin's ws12's stance transition is actually bad on hit (+2 with stance, +3 without stance). If you mash ws4 (or whatever your i11 ws move is) after getting hit by ws12 and he stances, it beats out every option except ZEN 1+2 (his fastest option at i13) and it trades with ZEN 1+2. This means no launch from ZEN 1+2. If you play Julia, your ws4 is a launcher if you trade with Jin's ZEN 1+2. Or you can keep it simple and just crouch jab and not trade with anything. Jin is better off doing ws12 with no stance since the frames on the stance are actually worse than no stance. Also, majority of Jin's tools are just vanilla tools that most characters already have and they either do it in a more consistent way or maybe just outright better. Why play Jin when you can just do similar things with similar if not better reward with half the effort and 2x the consistency?

The things chat was pointing out as weaknesses I agree aren't weaknesses. Jin struggles with oki (with the only options being d4, db4 at some angles, f(3,4), and bf21df2's last hit sometimes), and lacks a usable power crush. I find he also can struggle with evasive characters (ling and leo come to mind, where f4 goes OVER their evasive moves pretty often). Yes the power crush is somewhat fast, but it totally resets neutral and is a high. In all, not the worst weaknesses to have.

Generally a lot of information online says that you should treat being anything above -6 as too risky to step, is this information incorrect or does it depend on the situation more heavily than the frame adv/disadv?

Range is a little problem especially while punishing other moves. And if you can't do 15 frames or lower electrics the forget punishment.

i was wondering for a long time why Jin have one of the worst winrates in the game, since he was such a top tier character. But since then i've learned that what makes Jin hard to play is that you need to learn ALL aspects of that character in order to the most out of him. He has a move for every weakness of his, and the most optimized strength of him is locked behind an execution barrier. I honestly believe he is one of the more balanced characters in Tekken 7

I think Jin is even underutilized by the pros. When alot of guys use him there it seems like they weren't quite prepared to take him to the big stage and I'm not sure why. He has the tools to win anywhere.

Jin lacks good lows, in high level his hellsweep is very reactable, d4 is -13 his db4 is predictable in certain range. The general gameplan is just don't duck. Jin mains don't realize this tho and comes up with bad arguments for the character. Most of the dlcs or other characters in the game can just cheese him out that's why he relies heavily on fundamentals and matchup knowledge compared to other characters.

Jin's ff3 has terrible range. His standing 4 does whiff sometimes, u do one step back and he will whiff standing 4. Sure he's good, but he's not perfect he does have his flaws

If anything, his overtuned moves in every category make him far easier to play than alot of characters, because youre simply just rewarded more for doing anything at all -Punishment? yeah everything knocks down and wallsplats dw you dont have to deal with the opponent doing anything, you get an oki situation nomatter what -Offense? yeah your 50/50 is insane and everything is plus or a CH launch dw about using the wrong mid, its basically a homing mid CH launch with stance transitions/guaranteed checks or plus frames to work with -Oki? yeah your ff4 is plus if its blocked meaty and it hits grounded, and it knocks down into the same situation, yeah you have a hellsweep that relaunches techrolls, or a ff3 because yes -Knowledge Checks? yeah you have plenty of moves to seriously confuse newer players, and bunga simply doesnt work back because your parry is basically Leroys but with even better reward and even less risk -Defense? on that parry, its an OS to so many things its unbelievable, and its not a Yoshi flash either, this shit is consistently a get out of jail free card to any highs and mids -Execution? yeah dw the easy stuff is still really strong and you dont have to go for electrics to get good damage, nor do you need electrics as a big part of your gameplan when you have a movelist full of one-button alternatives thatll do just fine like no matter WHAT you do, you dont have to ever worry, you have a move to cover that. If you can think it, you can do it. And before anyone says "but thats difficult! theres so many moves to choose from that it becomes hard to decide the perfect one for every situation!" again with the whole "theres no wrong mid to mix up with", theres almost no BAD move for any situation you find yourself in either, and Jin actually has one of the smallest movesets in the game at ~78. Thats less moves than Noctis, less than Gigas, and under half that of trick characters like Yoshi Ling and Lei, so how do you think THOSE characters feel with there actually weak moves to compensate, when they RELY on knowledge checks to get by, and lack the tools to actually play tekken? (if i got anything genuinely really wrong in this long ass rant do feel free to correct me, this is a matchup i struggle with so literally any feedback is super appreciated!)

jin is an overrated character, he has bad frames,bad oki, tracking and bad reach on some core moves and is probably the hardest character to play in this game. He looks way better on paper, in reality he is strong but far from broken. Theres a reason he has the lowest online winrate in teh gaem.

Jin main here, he is absolutely busted, top 5 in the game busted. The only things he struggles with are his reach, which is booty, a lot of his moves have awful range, and he suffers from being so good that it can be hard to utilize him. When a character has everything and a move for every single situation he can be difficult to play correctly. Theres way more that goes into mastering this character than a vast majority. Despite the crying range is an issue, a lot of his moves whiff a LOT. Hes still busted and most moves have fine range, but there are a lot of important moves with sus range. His homing is op, he has peak movement, evasiveness, defense, and pressure, hes almost perfect.
