Hey everyone! Here I discuss the basic fundamentals to the form you would use in the game of pool. I cover the following:
Stance: 0:16 - 1:52
Grip Hand: 1:58 - 4:13
Bridge Hand: 4:20 - 9:07
Head Placement: 9:13 - 10:17
Hopefully, with my explanations and demonstration you have a better understand of what your form would look when playing the game of pool.
Thank you all for watching!

Very helpful. Particularly the "Grip Hand" being directly beneath the elbow at the point the tip is near the cue ball. Closed bridge technique is good too. Been working on my closed bridge a lot more since i've always used open-bridge. Thanks for he insightful video! - SUBSCRIBED

Hi Chris, I like your video very much and i think the very basic technic in every shot is how to keep the cue ball direction stable along the way to the target ball after the shot. Most beginner player find it really difficult to make this happened. I hope you could explain more about this. Thank you.

Hi, Chris! As always, another great lesson, much appreciated. My request is this, could you please put up a video on how to gauge cut shots? I can make those on a 1/3 table distance from cue to object ball most of the time; I start missing at 1/2 table length (making about 50%) and really drop off when shooting 70% table length or more. Is there a technique I could practice, or just more practice ( :-) )? Thanks in advance - Bill.

One thing I would say is a negative for a closed bridge is that your bridging finger obscures your view of where you are aiming. Then again, I am from a snooker background so I do find an open bridge more comfortable.

I have played recreational for years and a few small leagues long ago. After watching this video, I have played the open hand bridge for almost my entirety. I also now understand why the cue ball would go everywhere because I can see I do not have the best control of the stick throughout the striking motion (between grip placement and half correct open hand bridge...lol). Being an open hand style player, do you think its best to really work on the closed hand so that I can teach myself better control techniques or simply fine tune the open hand? Also figured I would ask your thought on Viper Revolution pool cues. I was looking at the 18-19 oz Revolution Spider for game play with a 21 oz Revolution Rider for breaks. (Viper brand being looked at as I am wanting to be in the $100 range a cue as opposed to the much higher $$ ones)
@LilChrisPoolPlayer
@LilChrisPoolPlayer 4 жыл бұрын
"do you think its best to really work on the close hand" ... Snooker players primarily play with an open hand bridge so the short answer is no. The long answer is, in my opinion, it's best to be proficient in all the mechanics of the game so you can use them when appropriate. As far as your question about Viper Revolution pool cues, I've never shot with one before so I wouldn't be able to give you a "good" assessment. Normally what I tell beginning players is that a $100 cue is a good starting cue. Some players are perfectly fine with sticking with their starting cue for e LONG time. However, I quite often I see players do eventually upgrade to a higher costing cue in order to be "unique" and that uniqueness comes at a price.

Love the video. However, it didn't address the one thing I was actually hoping to see discussed and that is how you close your grip hand around the cue. Such as where your fingers are positioned, how loose or tight you're holding the cue, etc. Any thoughts you have are greatly appreciated.
@LilChrisPoolPlayer
@LilChrisPoolPlayer 5 жыл бұрын
I primarily hold my cue with my thumb, index, and middle finger. The ring finger and pinky finger cradle the cue. On the back swing, the ring finger and pink open slightly and close on the way forward. What you would want to avoid is quickly clinching the cue on the follow through as this could cause your cue to twitch and hit off of where you wanted to hit the cue ball. Hope that helps!

And now for a pool question… But you said that you (meaning us) would like to use a close to grip on the majority of your shots, why?
@LilChrisPoolPlayer
@LilChrisPoolPlayer 5 жыл бұрын
I mentioned that when you use the open hand bridge, most beginning players will have a bad habit of picking up their cue off of their hand. This could result in either hitting the cue ball in a different spot than expected, or just flat out miscueing. With the closed hand bridge, that really can’t happen unless you open it and let go of the cue.

Hi cris I'm right hand and left aye dominant where I should align the cue
@LilChrisPoolPlayer
@LilChrisPoolPlayer 5 жыл бұрын
I'm also right handed and left eye dominant, so I would suggest aligning the cue right under your chin to where both your eyes can look down the shaft, through the cue ball, and at the object ball. This is what works for me. I have seen some right hand players, that are also left eye dominant, but they align the cue on the left side of their chin. If my first suggestion doesn't work, you may want to try the second suggestion.

I'm right handed with left eye dominant, I struggled a lot as I kept changing my head positions for years, I went through lot of slopes (ups and downs) before I've got consistent recently. My advice is to shoot the cue ball straight back to your cue from diamond to diamond ( table length) , then put straight shots and keep changing your techniques (head postion, grip, stroke...) where you can pocket all straight shots without having any unwanted spin on the cue ball. try (stop shots, stun follow, draw..) when this works well, stick to your technique and start play all other shots! good luck mate
