Today I'm Putting Orange Slices in Resin! I love how these turned out and now ill be drying fruit all week. What fruit do you all think would be cool to see in resin?

Orange Drying Directions
slice oranges very thinly.
place slices on a non stick pan, i used a silicone baking pan
set oven to 200 degreed Fahrenheit.
place slices on pan, not touching each other
place in oven for about 6 hours
there should be no moisture or soft parts when done they will crisp like a cracker, don't over cook though.

premium gold gilding paint ( The type i used is not available on amazon.) It is the CraftSmart brand and it works very well in my opinion. If you are looking for a alternative i would suggest get a gilding paint of some sort. Pens are ok but i have not found i brand of pen that i really like.

The bubbles, for me are becoming part of the process and in a lot of projects I do I'm no longer worried about bubbles. As for your orange slices those bubbled made the piece, like juice running out of the slice. Just gorgeous! Love it and worth the wait!!

Stick a butter knife in the oven door o leave slightly vented while cooking. Helps vent the moisture. 😉

Very pretty😍 I really like the bubbles...I've tried 🍋 before...I sliced them and left them out on my kitchen table to dry for about 1 week...

Hey! Did those Oranges last? I wanted to put some in resin but am afraid they will rot, even after having been dried. whats your verdict on that?

Hey.. thanks for the video.. I tried the same.. my orange slices were kind of floating so get them completely immersed was a task..

Nutan Birjdar 😊 no problem. I did mine in two layers. The oranges and gold leaf in the first layer. The a second layer to cover them. Also I find it best to coat the oranges in resin before putting them in, that will help reduce bubbles.

Until it was fully cured. I had to shave my oranges down to fit the mold so that why waited you could probably do it as soon as the the first layer is set.

Hey.. I was not able to dehydrate the oranges in oven. In the store sweetened dried orange slices are available. Can I use them?

i think the rule is if it will rot then it will rot in resin it may just take longer. tips for oranges, slice them as thin as you can get and they may need to stay in the oven for up to 8 hours.

I thought you were not supposed to use a torch with molds use heat gun. Posca paint pins are good for edges. I like the bubbles they look so pretty

Gina Beana Vinci Thank you! I usually do use my torch on all my molds and it’s ok with a little heat. This time I just used it a lot more than I usually do. Thank you I’ll try the posca pens I would really rather use one.

Hey, just wanted to know if the colour of the oranges change at all as time progresses?

So these went to a friend. I was over at their house a few nights ago and I did notice that the oranges looked a bit darker and not as vibrant. They still looked very nice but definitely not as bright. You’ll have to check the date of this video to see how long it’s been.

Have you tried painting the inside of the edges of your molds before you pour the resin? I have been doing that and get a nice, smooth finish...

No I haven't tried the,t but i have been thinking about it. Although I'm not sure if it would have saved these, i used a lot of heat. I wanted them to be very clear, so some of the mold was stuck to the sides of them and i had to sand it off :( next time i wont get over zealous with the torch.

@@LilmizzMarie ouch! Hard on your molds! I know heat is best, but I've been trying blowing through a straw. That's been working okay for me. But it still doesn't get the clearest. Today I tried using heat before I poured the resin. I'll find out tomorrow how well that worked. Have you tried a dehydrater instead of your oven? More energy efficient...

JayKB I have not tried a dehydrater yet this is the first thing I’ve ever dried lol. I’ll look into if I continue drying a lot. I only go this on clear projects because I want it to be crystal clear and I get a little handy. I’m going to try a spray bottle with a little alcohol in it. I’ve heard that works well.

If you paint resin over the orange slices before you put it in the first layer it should not produce big bubbles

Leeanne Dowdell yes I actually thought of that after I did the strawberries 🍓. I got really bad bubbles with those. I’m planning on doing some kiwi and that is exactly what I was going to do to try and reduce the bubbles. Thanks
