There is also a whole series called Nederland van Boven (the Netherlands from above) in which they show all the regions and show you all kinds of interesting things!

This video was extra fun for me as I grew up one town away from weert (the village where the zinc fabriek is) . Growing up I often saw military vehicles like trucks and tanks drive to the forrest ( smal translation error one places is called Budel and not boedel but I get the confusing sound when it is translated😉😆) I think now it is mostly used as walking path eventhough the military still sometimes train there. Also in parts of that forrest are 'urnenvelden' pre historic urn burial ground.

Once upon a time there was an American base there. Think that was abandoned in the late 70's early 80's. About the same time when there was a drive to close Eindhoven airport, including the military base.

This is my home town 😃 There are (if I'm correct) 11 churches and 3 chapels in a town of not even 50.000 people. But not all of them are instantly recognizable as a church as they're in 'normal' buildings. It was voted European's greenest city some years ago.

Love to see your interest in the Netherlands and also enjoying your vids. The day you come to the Netherlands we should meet. I'm living in Arnhem. WWII is living here. Knowing your background as a soldier you might find some interesting things for reaction videos. Love to see the joy in your posts. Keep up the good work

There's an important part about the greenery. It's a cheap way to prevent flooding. You don't really need pipes as infrastructure if you have grass and trees to suck away the water naturally. That's all beside the fact it just looks better than empty land.

5:58 Yes, these trails were made by military vehicles, but also by the many soldiers who walked here (me included). This is still a militaire practis area. In 1952 the then NCOs School (OOS) was established in the Van Horne Barracks (build in1939) in Weert. From 1961, the OOS school was renamed KMS "Koninklijke (Royal) Militaire School". Unfortunately, the Van Horne Barracks closed its gates at the end of 2014, both the civilian population of Weert and many miliaires found that very unfortunate. (Defense spending cuts).

It was a beautiful place. I was part of one of the last people trained there. In the KMSL (Koninklijke Militaire School Luchtmobiel) (English Royal Military Academy Air mobile Assault) I mis the beauty of the place and Limburg in general

Weert still misses the military, it was really unfortunate. The army also loved Weert, the army did lots of things for Weert. I went to the middle school next to 'de kazerne' and we had a show every year at the Baracks made by the militaries. Went to the digital shooting range etcetera, miss the days.

Limburg is one of the higher regions of the Netherlands , with its highest point ( the hill of Vaals ) at 322.5 Meters ( 1058.07 Ft ) above Sea level. i know this because i am from this region and where i live we are already 170 Meters ( 557.74 Ft ) above Sea level. we have a lot of hills and a LOT of farm land and nice towns with old farms and buildings dating back more than 100 years. I can recommend if you come to the Netherlands one day to come visit Limburg. Specially the ' Limburgse heuvelland ' .. Epen , eys , Witten, Wielre , Valkemburg , Gulpen and vaals ... its really beautyfull there with all the nature.

7:36 In total, more than 19,000 churches have been built in the Netherlands in the course of history, of which about 7,000 still remain. About 4000 of these have the status of monuments and about 4000 church buildings are still in use: about 2300 by the Protestants and about 1700 by the Catholics.

Weert is at the southern end of the Peel, a very large and nearly impenetrable bog area that used to stretch all the way to Nijmegen over 50 km away. The land here is higher than the sea, so it was not reclaimed from the sea, but rather from this bog. This happened piece by piece over the last two centuries, and many villages in the area started off as places for the workers to live. Some of it still remains in the original state, in the form of nature reserves like the Groote Peel and the Deurnese Peel. Weert was probably a hill within this wetland, that would have been easier to traverse and safe to build on.

At 7:35 where you mentioned the church in Keent. I actually live one street over from that church. I didn't expect to see my hometown on your channel, but to in fact be able to see my own house was even more unexpected. Love your content about the Netherlands (except for the songs that is).

About the trees: never just cut a tree in the city (or even your own property), because you'll need a permit PLUS a very good reason to put the tree down. A good reason could be: the tree is ill, the tree is a danger, but not: it is blocking my view. In our country green is the most common color...

the birds do not come if there are no trees. the dutch started to use old trees and (trans)plant them in new build areas. new areas always feel dead until the trees mature.

The Netherlands is a very green country if you look at it from above. Vast meadows, shrubs and forests color the country green. Moreover, a green living environment contributes to human health. Trees 🌴🌳🌱🌿are the lungs of the earth. They absorb CO2, emit oxygen and contribute to the health of humans and animals. Wonderful video by the way.

In Weert is an army Academy for the army personal that are on their way to becoming sergeant. Good times. An instructed asked for a guy from my platoon while we were hanging out in the sleep room with 10 beds and clossets. The guy moments earlier climbed in the backpack closset which was on top of the reguler closset. We closed the door on it to see if he actually fitted in. When the instructor came the guy was still in there. And it was a big guy. We told the instructor he was going for a smoke (a lie of course as he was in there but we didn't want to get in trouble 😂). The instructor decided to wait in our room and have a chat with us till he came back from the "smoke". The instructor hung around for 40! minutes. And that big guy being in the closset that was about as big as he. Hilarious. Somehow it was always that same guy that managed to get in awkward/ stupid situations.

You can not always walk on other peoples property. It's not appropriate to come close the house. There are many walking routes over landscapes that crosses (legaly) private property. These routes are called "klompenpaden" (wooden shoes walking paths). Walking these routes you can enjoy nature and sceneries.
