As someone who is shooting my 2nd USPSA match in a week, a USPSA member and my 12 year old son is going to shoot his 1st match in a week, Thanks for the podcast!

Being a Limited 40 S&W shooter, I believe in Major PF. However, I understand and believe that the Divisions have to be simplified. If the decision was made to do away with Major PF to go with a minimum caliber of 9mm, maybe a minimum PF of 135 or whatever, I would probably just download my 40 S&W, change springs and shoot. I would vote for condensing the divisions even though I am heavily invested in 40 S&W. It would make things a lot clearer for new shooters and match directors.

One Nationals only; declare your Division and shoot. Make it a week long extravaganza!

If I changed everything to 9mm I would change the scoring to everything I’d scored major or minor( one type of scoring across the board. If you want to place an emphasis on accuracy than make it minor scoring or if speed is the emphasis, go major scoring. Personally, I would probably go minor scoring.

Entered my first competition ever, won my division because I was the only one in it :P

I would change the power factor minimum power floor to something more than 125. I think maybe 135-140 although I would base it on what is readily available in factory store bought ammo. I don’t know what that is?

I’m either really happy that I’m just now entering the sport, or I’m completely terrified that I’m entering the sport right now. Look forward to seeing the carnage in Talladega firsthand this year😂

We aren’t in the 5lb-10lb crappy trigger, 8rd 45 15rd 9mm, iron sights, 80s service pistol market. The lines shouldn’t be drawn that way, because manufacturers that freeze time that way can go be Kimber. Kimber can go serve IDPA. The single action allergy needs to get figured out. The wall btw CO and LO boils down to a trigger option. Modified should come back, carry comps are a thing. Comps aren’t going away the same way dots aren’t going away. Comps are another increasingly common retail feature that the public is going to value to make shooting “easier”. Everyday open is what people want.

Great conversation. I shoot idpa mostly because that is what's in my area but it's interesting to hear what's going on in the sport in a wider scale. Ben Stoeger has been ranting about this stuff a lot too lately. Seems like there may be a paradigm shift coming soon. Interesting times ahead.

Hey guys, great discussion: I normally shoot limited at local matches but was out this past year. I normally just go to test my latest CZ mod/build as opposed to being competitive. Ammo PF: one thing that might be considered with the lower power factor ammo is to make it low enough to suit all the normal target ammo mfg. or there would be the issue of "you can't shoot that ammo in this division" to the newer shooters that would be encourages to bring their guns out to run. As a reloader I agree that there is a distinct advantage to a gassed/comped gun but would feel better about just loading it at 160 vs 165. Having no Major PF minimum would also make match dir job easier because there wouldn't be the whole chrono ammo thing AND I think it would encourage more people to move from Limited to Open as they gradually bump up the PF. Limited Optics: Being out for a year I got really excited when I heard about this possibility. At the local matches it's a lot of CO that I would love to run with but I'm a tinkerer and I just can't shoot plastic striker guns. One thing though, I prefer a frame mounted optic so please consider that as an option vs having it be slide mounted only. Committee: The idea of a committee is a great idea I think - they can get better input and also pass the buck while still getting things changed up for the better and future of the sport.

1:03:35 I agree that the flashlight rule could've been written and implemented better, but overall I'm happy I can now have a flashlight on my gun. I carry with a X300 on my gun everyday, so having to take it off every match was annoying. It's also a step in the right direction of getting away from the "can't have tactical things in the sport cause the Left will cancel us" mindset.

Total spend on a houston local match 6-7 stage match for me is $100-$150. Ammo, 2 hours driving round trip, $30 match fee.

I’m with a Kenny, the gun does not matter. I’m shooting a Legion right now with no magwell. I would not feel I was at a disadvantage if I was going up against a 2011 with a magwell. We only have 1 mag change, if any at all, so who cares about the magwell? I can put the magwell that came with my Legion on and be done with it. I think he is right in that if the only differences in the 2 divisions is a magwell, and the type of gun, it will kill the current CO division. If that’s the case why not just make 1 division and allow that stuff in.

After watching this and hearing about sigs super compensator technology, I realized that it is really nothing more than a copy of the old bushing style 1911 compensator, where the compensator is attached to the slide and not the barrel. Nothing new under the sun LOL

Since the goal seems to be getting more shooters to participate, as someone who doesn't shoot any pistol only sport, id want the rules simple. 😅 i dont want to shoot against people with Massive open guns with compensators and overpressured ammo. i just want to shoot against people with normal guns people normally buy 😅 10 round capacity, effective compensators and optics dividing people makes sense but i dont mind shooting my sig229sao, compact wilson edcx9 and beretta92 against fullsize staccatos, i have at 2 gun matches and it doesnt seem like too much of a disadvantage to me 😅 simple would be nice and adding single action only guns to carry optics would be appealing to me 😁

So y’all are saying Stacatto triggers aren’t really that great and I’m not disagreeing I’ve never even handled one but are they still good enough to win things? Do triggers even matter that much as long as they’re at least serviceable or is it just all preference. Can a stock 320 trigger win championships with the right shooter behind it?

CO will not die if LO is a separate division by itself. Instead, if LO is an independent division, it will die in 2 years just like IPSC POL. By that time, it's very likely people will want to merge it into CO, just like IPSC POL got cut and merged into IPSC PO. Also, I know Luke Cao shooing a Titan beats Luke Cao shooting a PDP given the same or similar amount of practices on both. Same case for me. So if I want to compete in LO, I will be getting 2011s just for that higher performance ceiling they offer. If LO is added to CO, I will most likely try to switch from Tanfo to 2011 platform. Just because Nils beat others shooting 2011s with a plastic gun, does not automatically mean plastic guns are just as good or even better than 2011s. In fact, I speculate Nils training on 2011s will beat Nils training with a Canik given the same amount time/effort. It's all about which gun enables you to perform better and offers a higher performance ceiling, not about someone else can beat you with another gun. Whether or not one can reach that performance ceiling offered by 2011s, that's a totally different topic. Just want to add a statement I heard from someone, "every division where 2011s are allowed, they will dominate that division in the end", in terms of the percentage of shooters using 2011s, not necessarily match titles, etc. Also interesting is that every discussion about 2011s vs. other platforms is about SAO. I personally don't think SAO will provide any meaningful benefit at all, but the other soft stats on 2011 platforms added up together offers a decent edge, such as the trigger reach+profile, the slide weight+cone barrels+balance, stroked slide, fat safety/thumb rest, more reliable 24+1 mags, etc.

The misconception that I'm tired of hearing is "the sport grew because of carry optics". The membership numbers stayed the same. The sport hasn't grown because of carry optics. Members simply just shifted from the division they were currently shooting in to carry optics. I'm not against the division I just think it needs to be clear that The truer statement is members shifted to that division rather than the sport growing in membership.

Just my 2 cents worth. Ditch power factor. Leave open alone... it's like the top fuel drag racing of the sport. Classic racing. Everything below that could be broke down into 3 divisions . Limited Irons, Limited Optics, and Tactical Comped. I guess you could leave single stack, pcc, and revolver as they are. My thoughts on a tactical comped class gives guys who don't wanna buy a wiz bang open gun can compete with realistic duty/carry comped pistols that are becoming increasingly popular. Think a class that caters to the Roland Special.
