Great video and very informative. I've watched several other rebuild videos and you're the only one who set backlash correctly per the manual! Preloading the carrier bearings is just as important as preloading the pinion bearings which many don't realize. Setting the backlash by simply moving the carrier side to side does not preload the bearings. Great job and thanks for sharing!

Exellent informative vid!! however, you failed to mention that you're using a crush sleeve eliminator which is usually for racing app. and therefore a different preload setup procedure, assuming most people will use the crush sleeve method, getting ready to do this myself, thank you for the tips!

Thanks for the feedback! Good luck with the rebuild. As far as I know, the 489 case 8 3/4's are the ones that use a crush sleeve, or would need a crush sleeve eliminator kit if you chose to use shims instead. The 741 and 742 cases use shims for the pinion preload from factory.

Did you have to tear down the sure grip? I’m at that stage now.

Yep. Here is the video that includes the tear down (about 4 minute mark) m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z9B4ftOfv9ORo3U.html

Are you upgrading to non-taper axles?
@vintagevalhalla75236 ай бұрын
No, i stayed with the factory setup. Below is a link to the 3rd video of this rebuild where I set the endplay with the tapered axles in case you’re interested… m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nNSnnqt4y7Gzc4E.html

I need to know what the bearings number is
@vintagevalhalla75234 ай бұрын
Sorry, but I don't have that information. Dr. Diff's website has the part numbers for the carrier bearings he sells. www.doctordiff.com/8-3-4-carrier-bearings-and-races-pair.html
