Backyard Garden Tour!! This weekend I visited a garden with which I have lots of experience. It belongs to my friend Elaine, a neighbor and excellent gardener... and fellow mom carpooler when our kids were little. On the spur of the moment, I asked her if Stewart and I could come over and conduct a video tour of her beautiful backyard… Complete with a small herb garden. Treehouse. Outdoor fireplace and dining area. Whew!
So many great ideas to steal in this video, my friends. You will want to take notes! Both big statements and little touches. Hope you enjoy it and if you do make sure to like it, subscribe and forward to someone who might get some ideas from this wonderful family space!

Love her garden, especially the side garden...such an elegant old world feel. How fun to have gardener friends in your neighborhood. Can’t believe she has three dogs! They must be better behaved than my one!

Love that her garden is a functioning garden for her AND her family. The tether ball put a smile on my face. I had one of those in my yard when I was a little girl. Almost as nostalgic as dodge ball.

I prune all of my bushes into a tree form and I love it that you talked about this. The effect is awesome in this garden. Love it!

Elaine's fireplace area with the pergola is lovely. I like how the wall is rounded facing out to the yard. What a beautiful cozy space to entertain. Nice job, Elaine!

A lovely garden, thanks for the tour. It's always fun and inspirational seeing other gardens. I have herbs in my garden planted in wash tubs like that. Love the old tree house, we turned our girls old playhouse into a garden shed, but we still refer to it as the playhouse. (In a sense it still is, we gardeners play in the dirt). lol Her bench is very much like mine is the sense that it has aged well and placed to enjoy the view, ours overlooks the creek and our field beyond. I definitely got a few ideas from her lovely garden!

I love the sound of those bells! The fireplace is really nice and would be so practical. Such a clever area to chill out. Very enjoyable walkabout. Thanks Linda and please also thank your friend Elaine for allowing us into her garden. Look forward to the make over. Pity you're on the wrong side of the Atlantic Ocean or you could've done a make over and before and after on our garden here in Ireland! Having a beautiful big black and white Springer spaniel myself I was waiting eagerly to get a look at her dogs lol. Love vera

this is such great inspiration as I begin to design my garden. just what I had in mind...various areas of interest around the perimeter of the backyard. definitely will add a fenced in potiger in one corner. thanks Elaine and Linda for an awesome garden tour 💗

The best thing I can tell you is that I am grateful for the space . Having it behind my shed and “out of sight “ is a big deal for me . I one bin that is a round barrel type that I use a lot in the cold months . I feed it grass, chopped up dead leaves and my kitchen waste. The next bin is 48 inches in depth and 96 inches long . It currently has grass clipping and daily trimming and kitchen waste. ( summertime ) The big area with the tin in the fence is finished compost from last year. The tin goes up that high because that is how many leaves I have at the end of fall . I turn it 2x from December to March . I will use all this dirt around the garden before fall . Then later leaves as they fall and the grass bin . So easy and very gratifying.

Absolutely beautiful example of garden design and maintenance. So many points of interest to investigate. I especially love the fenced "secret garden" area and look forward to watching the makeover. Her use of the wrought iron fence to define the flow is most unusual and charming. There are probably more lovely gardens in your neighborhood that would be of interest. Thank you Linda, love your friend/neighbors garden. I love the little details all over her garden and influences from your garden. I especially love the tree house her children and yours enjoyed growing up. I would’ve loved to live in a house as long as you both have and many of my friends have, but when you marry a military man and have moved as much as we have it’s hard. Your friend has the same type of grass we have Zoysia and for the past couple of weeks I’ve been having trouble with mine, this will be our 2nd year here and never had a problem. My grass was the best looking one in the neighborhood but as you mentioned in your last video I believe, if your lawn does not look its best then nothing else will. I was told it’s been over watered by the sprinklers or have some insect problems. I think it could be both so I’m treating it for insects, fertilizing it but hand watering it for now until we figure out the programming of the sprinkler box. Thank you for hearing me out.😃

I’ve done the same thing to my Burning bushes though mine have a few more trunks hiding an ugly utility meter.Thought I was crazy for doing that. In fact a couple of landscapers had made fun of me/offered to trim them down, but I envisioned how they would look and they have added a lot of charm to my side yard as people walk around to our patio.
