As promised this week I have a look at five flies that I will be taking for my first cast on the large Stillwaters this year. The list was super hard to shrink down to just five but I have managed it.
Hope you enjoy my choices let me know your favourites in the comments section.

The cormorant is probably the ultimate competition size legal evolution of mini lures. The slim body in conjunction with the mobility, movement, and life of the marabou or rabbit fur wing. It is a perfect storm in a smaller package. Even down to a sixteen on difficult days. It just works

Just came across your channel. My wife and I are planning to visit her son and daughter-in-law that live in Oxford. I was thinking of trying to get into Farmoor Trout Fishery, to try some stillwater fishing in November. Thanks again and I will be checking out your other videos.

Hope you enjoy your first day on the water, our trout season started on the 1st but its bloody freezing and I'm not too keen on standing in the water for a few hours, definitely agree on the candyfloss booby,the cormie and the quilled buzzer, I still prefer the cruncher though. Keep up the good work Mr Simpson!! ATB Chris.

Seeing how you were going to the Rutland you remind me of two extra patterns that Arthur Cove used on Rutland in his book my way with trout. First pattern is naturally a Cove nymph in size 8 tyed on her 2X long heavy hook. I found that there’s several substitutes but I think the original formula calling for the blue colored English hair works the best in the thorax. The other one is the stick fly. May I suggest that you go and review a few chapters of Arthur Cove before you go to Rutland. I like your KZfaq channel and the things you say I am a Stillwater fisherman from the USA but on this side of the pond there is very little written about Stillwater angling. Tight lines and good health to you and all of your KZfaq followers be safe and healthy.

Thanks Jim, I have read a fair bit of Arthur's book. I know Rutland well from a boat but not so much from the bank. I am surprised there is not more interest in Stillwater fishing in the US. I am sure you have some fantastic waters.

@@lindsayiflyfish i’ve just found it helpful to get the season going you’re after year I read a couple chapters because he writes in a seasonal routine where he talks about early spring later spring summer early fall late fall I just found it very helpful the kind of put my mind in the rights thinking process. I find something new every time I read the book,, I also reread Gordon Fraser‘s book a lot. The majority of my fishing is from a float tube or on the bank. I noticed in your video when you were doing the Rollie Poly retrieve that you were putting it into a landing net that was at 90° is that a net that comes from sharps in Scotland? Or what is it called that net .? When I buy things from the UK I generally utilize the essential fly I can generally get it within a month good shipping time for things coming from abroad.
@lindsayiflyfish
@lindsayiflyfish 2 жыл бұрын
@@jimverona The net I use from the bank is the Wychwood Bankman, the head can be tilted to any angle and there is a spike that can be pushed into the ground. Its Ideal in winter when the banks are often very muddy.

I fished a black snake on opening day at wimbleball and it slaughtered them! We’ll over 20 fish and lots over 5lb. Biggest went 7lb. Chartreuse tungsten head with a short polar flash tail and a few strands of polar flash down the sides. Killer pattern!!!
