Great work! You probably know that Busted Fishing also now do a winder and also the have a line guide tool also as well as a cool tool to remove old line that you attach to an electric drill. You can also use these tools to get the exact amount of backing you require when you're using a small amount of top shot braid.

Thanks! Yup, saw they came out with a winder a few years after I built this one. I like to think this helped inspire them - lol.

craftsmen??, that aluminum work is beautiful,, tell us about the anodizing process
@ShinyInsanity3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Not a craftsman at all. The anodizing process is fairly straight forward using a mixture of the acid the sell for batteries, distilled water and a DC power unit. The dyes can be bought online from a company called Caswell plating.

Do you know the model of the drill?
@ShinyInsanity2 жыл бұрын
It's a Dewalt DW235G. Still have it and it's still going strong.
@brentbeard73973 жыл бұрын
What is the drill attachment? Did you make that as well?
@ShinyInsanity3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is a piece of aluminum with a threaded rod through the center that I also made.

I know this video is old, but do you have the build plans for it? If so, can you provide them?

Hi, sorry but it's been a long time since I built it so not sure I still have those plans. Will have to look.

how much, I think you have a great chance of selling this product one of the very few nice looking and very well made

cool setup....question , you mentioned you anodized the metal...how did you do that?
@ShinyInsanity7 жыл бұрын
ReelKingin Thanks. I have a home setup that I made. It's actually not that hard. You just need a few main things like battery acid, a power supply, distilled water and a few other things. There are a few videos on here how to do it. I might have to make a video of my own one day on the topic.
@SubcultureS107 жыл бұрын
please do...i got some aluminum and SS fishing pieces I would LOVE to have done.....that would be awesome, ive looked at the videos on here over time and none of them are simple, they make it more difficult than what it really is....thanks for getting back to me

Do you have plans for the line spooler?
@ShinyInsanity3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no. Planned and built as I went along
@tborto74475 жыл бұрын
Hi, I am looking at buying this spooler as well.. How close do the cones come together? will the points touch?
@ShinyInsanity5 жыл бұрын
They're on a threaded rod so you can screw them down to touch if you wanted. Very good level of adjustability.
@tborto74475 жыл бұрын
Is there a new link to the details blog? I'm curious on how you did your reel seats.
@ShinyInsanity5 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I took my blog down about a year ago. The reel seats are just triangular metal pieces with a thumb screw that pushes the back piece up and puts pressure on the reel foot. Similar to the ones the triangle winder uses.
@soloboyz9165 жыл бұрын
Hi how do you hold the drill in place ? Thanks u
@ShinyInsanity5 жыл бұрын
It's locked in place by friction from the screw down. I clamp the plastic neck of the drill, not the chuck itself.
@donaldpayne12594 жыл бұрын
Design plans, I’d like to build that one

Sorry, but it's been a long time since I built it so not sure where my plans are for this one.....if I even had a real set or just built on the fly.

Any chance you still have and would sell that catchy tackle lure in the video?
@ShinyInsanity6 жыл бұрын
Sorry Mike, I like that lure a lot so it's not for sale. They still sell them online though if you cannot find them locally.
@mikechavezjr95336 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. The 16oz and 26oz have been discontinued for several years. For whatever reason charkbait still has them on their website but I had no luck getting them after a lot of back and forth with them supposedly contacting the manufacturer. If yours is the 26oz I'll give you $100 for it if that sparks your interest.
@ShinyInsanity6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the offer Mike, but I'm going to have to decline. I "think" it's a 26. Wanted to see if I could make one out of stainless as a project at some point.

Thanks for the inspirations. I've tested mine today. The only thing I need yet is the reel clamp and a better T handle for the drill. Where did you get the reel clamp aluminum? They look like minature leaf spring hangers, that is what i need next. www.thehulltruth.com/sportfishing-charters-forum/741211-weekend-project-handmade-spooler.html
@ShinyInsanity8 жыл бұрын
+anderdw2 Nice work on your setup. I like it a lot. The aluminum was just some rectangular tubing that I cut at a 45 degree angle and used a Dremel to create a concave recess to grip the reel seat. Then just drilled and tapped a few holes as needed for the pivot point bolt and the lockdown thumb screw. Most of the materials were acquired on eBay or through onlinemetals.com. Hope that helps.
