Quick video of unwrapping and nut dis-assembly of two RM1605 (16mm diameter, 5mm pitch) and one RM2005 (20mm diameter, 5mm pitch) ball screws with ball nuts for a G0704 CNC conversion.
Shipping took 10 days from me sending the payment and arrived via FedEx. Packaging seems adequate as I had no damage and the screws are straight. I had them cut to size and ends machined per drawings I sent Chai and they machined them accurately - the threads are good and the ends fit into my bearings smoothly and without play.
I had the top of one nut ground for clearance and that was done well - I had seen a photo on cnczone where it looked like they used a handheld grinder so its good to see that's done more professionally now.
All of the nuts show signs of grit - clearly visible in the video on the wipers and the ball screw returns. One of the nuts had a slight rattle, which turned out to be from it missing 1 ball (should be 17 in each of the three tracks on the 16mm and 20 on the 20mm screws). I sent an email and am being sent extra free of charge.
Update - Received enough balls to repack all 3 screws. I have installed them in my G0704 mill now and they work excellently.
eBay store from where I bought them -

You can machine parts in Metric or SAE(Inch) regardless of the ballscrews. During the initial setup of Mach 3 you enter the ball screws turns per inch (convert it from threads per millimeter), and then select what units you want it to use, once that's done you can select between inch and mm and Mach3 will do the conversion. I generally machine stuff using SAE measurements, but if I get a Metric part I just switch from inch to metric in Mach3.

If your ordering the screws to machine yourself they are 778.5mm and 340.4mm 16mm Screws and a 533.4mm 20mm screw. The Machining specifications are in a PDF that Billy sends you.

I have a few 1610s that I'm just about to incorporate into a build. I don't like the fact that of all of the threads they put on the end only like three or four threads are under the lock nut. And what's up with that lock nut? as soon as you tighten that thing up the few threads you had available are damaged! Any solutions or comments are appreciated. I think a brass locking nut would be ideal. I just can't find any that'll fit.

I thought about making a repacking video, but there's one on here already. It's got a narrative so its much more helpful than anything I could make. Did you contact them about the missing balls?

I'm using them on a Milling Machine I'm changing to Computer Control. They convert the rotary motion of motors into linear motion with less friction and play than the screws my Mill came with.

At least your machined ends look nice. Mine look like they were roughed out but no finish pass plus the ends have the little metal needles from the cutter being too low.

Hi, I do not have a video showing the reassembly - there was already one better than I could make. Search KZfaq for "Repacking Linearmotionbearings Ballscrews". The 1605 nuts I received had a total of 51 balls (17 for each "circuit"/plastic ball return on the nut). If you contact him he will quickly send more balls. I was missing one on an RM2005 nut (Correct number is 63), received many extra within a week.

Do you have a video on reassembling and reloading of the spheres back to the nut? I've got one 1605 set from this seller and the long screw felt strange and travel wasn't smooth. I disassembled it and found 26 spheres: is that quantity right? Thanks, excellent video! Best, Fernando

I'm not sure how accurate google translate was, but if your asking how fast my Mill is with the 5mm pitch ball screws... I have mine set to 120 IPM (50mm/s) rapids, which is on the conservative side so that I don't lose any steps.

Hi Sr. Thanks for share You experience . Is there any advantage in use a 2008 (8mm pitch) instead a 2005 (5mm pitch)?
@shodanxx
@shodanxx 8 жыл бұрын
+Eduardo Braga You get more linear motion per rotation with the 8mm pitch. You torque to force ratio is equally change, just like changing the gear in a gearbox. If you put 100 ounces-inch of torque on a 5mm pitch ballscrew, you will get 199 pounds of force in the axial direction of the ball screw. If you have a 200 step servo directly driving this ball screw, each step will be of 0.001". Instead if you use a 8mm pitch ballscrew, you will get 124 pounds of force and 0.0015" per step. Wear characteristic are probably different but I'm not sure if the 8mm or the 5mm will wear faster under the same load.

The sellers username is "linearmotionbearings2008" on eBay, if you google his username the first result is his eBay item page. I specified how long I wanted them and how I wanted the ends finished so you just have to say what lengths you want of which ballscrew and say you dont want any end machining. I'd recommend sending him a message through eBay even if you find an auction with similar lengths as it ended up being a lot cheaper that way for me.

I'm no expert.... but here goes Is there any movement at all? Did you just get it and it was like that or have you tried repacking? If you repacked it with balls yourself did you use balls that came from the same place as the ball screw or ones you bought elsewhere after measuring yourself? If it's brand new, contact the seller Is it the same style as the ones in my video or does it have an external ball return (a tube that runs along the outside)? If its an external ball return then remove the return and you should be able to get the balls out through that and then the nut off the screw to determine the problem. Otherwise get a compressor and blow air through the nut from all directions incase there's a bit of grit or debris jammed in there and then pour some lubricant into the nut and let it sit for a while. Then gently try to turn it.
