RUMINATIONS: This episode really marks another turning point in the show. Aside from the previous episode or two starting me using the AT4W ident bumper at the end of the episode, this is where I started indicating what I was doing next time on pretty much every episode. Really it’s just an easier way of concluding an episode than trying to come up with a proper conclusion, since this isn’t a video essay or something - the conclusion is supposed to be the part right before this where I give my final thoughts on the comic. The final big changeover with this episode was that this was when I started using Screenwave’s player on my site. Simply put, I had seen how badly Blip had been in December, which is normally the high point for revenue, and knew that I had to stop using it. It would function as a backup while I worked on getting youtube caught up (although the plan there originally was to be caught up in 3-4 years, since I didn’t want youtube to be such a big draw… you can see how well that worked out), but sadly it was clear that Blip wasn’t going to get better any time soon. As a result of switching over to Screenwave, that necessitated rendering the videos in MP4s as opposed to WMVs. I always prefer WMVs because of their file size and ease of use on all my Windows-based machines, but as people have seen, there was a year or two where clips ended up lingering for some reason after it switched back over to panels, which caused problems. Hell, an entire joke in the Holy Terror review where I stare at an image and go back and forth for a minute was ruined because of that glitch. Fortunately, that doesn’t happen with MP4s.
This episode features the return of the Previously On segment! The thing is that I had been doing less and less two-part episodes in recent years, so there was less of a need for it. After the Mass Exodus, there was a lot of uncertainty about Channel Awesome and the newer producers, so since I was doing a Previously On Segment anyway, I decided to focus on some of the newer talents. They stepped up rather well, IMHO. My favorite is, of course, the unending adventures of Eduardo being discussed by Some Jerk with a Camera. There were a few more in there he sent, but I felt it was best ended where it was. A close second is Yomarz being chased by a dinosaur in various locales. It encompasses the silliness of Previously On segments well, I think.
