Stan Lee warning us to look out for Mutants with a tone that suggests a witch hunt. This is the most mixed message since Marvel successfully argued in court that Mutant characters aren't human. (Apparently human action figures were taxed more than non human toys).

Boy, when I was in college and was just really getting into X-Men, everyone RAVED about Pryde of the X-Men. It would come up every time people were talking about the animated series. Everyone thought it was the best thing ever--I recall one guy disliking the regular series because he was hoping it'd be a continuation of Pryde and he never got over that disappointment. So, I got the VHS tape and ... the animation was fantastic and it was cool hearing Michael Bell and Frank Welker, but ... There was stuff I disliked too. Wolverine's accent really bugged me and Storm's childish "Imma put a storm cloud over yer head LOL" moment just made me go, "... really?". I honestly don't remember much else. Like you said, it was just okay--it had its good and bad points. Yah, there wasn't much point to this comment other then "Hey, I remember this" =P

Will Meugniot, Rick Hoberg, and myself were the Directors of "Pryde of the X-Men", as well as the storyboard artists on the "Spiderman and his Amazing Friends", where we added the X-Men into the episode "A Firestar is Born". Although the pilot didn't sell the series, the three of us were a big part of the "X-Men:TAS" series that sold later with story editors Eric and Julia Lewald. All the inconsistencies you cited, yep, we bear that hilarious burden as well as the series' successful five-year run later on.

Emma Frost is a Telepath... oO I believe those Physonic Blasts she does is from Telepathy, that gives her power to bring thought into a Physical Form, making her able to do things that can hurt people, oO As well as make people believe they are seeing things that really aren't there... oO And she can Fly, I guess, too... But in the so called Telepathy realm, she could do that anyways, oO I don't know much of anything to do with any form of Glass or Ice Shards or whatever as a form of Encasing her into a Mold of Egg or Hardened Substance... But I believe people call it her Diamond Form? No? I until Wolverine the movie came out, had never even heard of that before, & thought it made her a weak character, & felt she was much better portayed in Pryde Of The X-Men then any other media, oO
@LupineShadowOmega
@LupineShadowOmega 3 жыл бұрын
@@KenyoMurabu Man what are you talking about? Emma's diamond form was a secondary mutation she developed after Cassandra Nova experimented on her. And likewise it was always a sort of interesting power, because while it makes her relatively invulnerable physically, but what it doesn't do is make her much stronger physically while also coming at the expense of shutting down both her telepathy and her emotions. Considering how massively powerful she is, diamond form tends to be something she does when she literally just needs to not deal with whatever it is or needs a unbreakable psychic defense against inhuman or possession foes. And it doesn't encase anything, all of her body's tissues change into a crystalline structure. She becomes a literal human shaped diamond.

I actually remembered when this actually aired on television. The animation and artwork was the best I've seen for. The smooth frame rate was refreshing as well as coloring, shading, and rendering. I very much enjoyed the pilot and wished it had gone into production back then, but had it had done so I am sure the quality of the episodes would not even come close to the grandeur of the pilot. Still, maybe it was for the best that it didn't go into production as we got an even better version in the 90's via FoxKids. Awesome episode.

That would have been terrible for a Name, o_@ People need to stop & get a grip on reality... First of all? You don't have to have a Voice of another Country to play a Part... Think? America has many, many different types of Voices & cultures, & accents in it... Claiming that an Australian can't be the voice of someone who lives somewhere else? Is like saying an Italian can't live in Japan, because of their color or the way they speak, o_@ or that an Italian can't be part Japanese? or that a Japanese can't speak fluid Italian without an Asian Accent... This is why, I think it's stupid when people get upset about a Color or nationality or voices or accents, or the way someone looks in a Live Action, ~_~ To me, it doesn't matter, just as long as they do the part good, & they actually look like what their suppose to look like... After that, I can care less if they are not of the same race, or culture... ~_~ I mean, we are asking actors, people who act as if they were someone they were not, to play a part of a character, & we ask them to do the part how we feel they should do it... We are not looking for Logan from the Comics to play himself, because he in the real world does not exist, lOl… When it comes to Bashing Actors for portrayals of Characters, & their White Washing, or whatever it is they call it now... They need to remember, these Characters do not exist in the real world we live in, so stop fussing over trying to find them, lOl...

I had this episode on VHS back in the day and I freaking loved it. It definitely has its faults, though I wasn't as creeped out by Nightcrawler as you are, but 6-year-old me loved this thing. Pure, fun, action from beginning to end. I also loved the designs, including brown Wolverine. The actual series is better in almost every way, but this short still holds a place in my heart.

You know Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler was 21 in the comics when he first met Kitty Pryde aka Shadow Cat, and she was 13/14. Thank god X-men Evolution made Kurt and Kitty the same age, sort of. They almost had a romance together but never went anywhere seeing how that show was more focused pairing up Kitty with Lance Alvers aka Avalanche.

When I saw this episode for the first time, in my early teens, I was a fan of X-men: Evolution and well familiar with Nightcrawler's insecurities about his looks in that continuity, and I think I considered Kitty wrongful in her reaction towards him, but when I saw it again when I got older I reacted to how creepily he was acting. He just kept invading her personal space and kissing her hand without permission even AFTER she had made it quite clear that she didn't like it!

It's rare to hear of Dazzler outside of the comics, even in a quick cameo. One good thing that may have come out of this series if it was made would be the introduction of some lesser known characters to people who don't read the comics. I'm always appreciative when other forms of media does that. It provides a more rounded and connected community.
@TwilightRogue15
@TwilightRogue15 7 жыл бұрын
Eamonn Deane Indeed. The animated series also gave Victor his most oft used backstory (which is the best, in my opinion), showing how other media on comic characters can influence the comics, as well.
@TwilightRogue15
@TwilightRogue15 7 жыл бұрын
Eamonn Deane Absolutely. I'm fine with coming up with something original, as well, but don't create a plotline that directly spits in the face of the previous. Fans tend not to enjoy that. I understand that they were attempting to 'evolve' the narrative by taking elements of the previous and adding onto it. That is, of course, perfectly fine. But, a good rule of thumb to follow when attempting this is 'does this build our understanding of the character?' In this case, the answer was 'no'. What we got instead was a very significant alteration of an otherwise established lore that worked towards the narrative (of the Court of Owls) rather than the character. If they added the bit about his mother and having Nora as the second 'offense' of this nature, I can see that working. I'm also certainly not against someone tempting him with use of his research to help others after he believed it all to be lost to all but him as a way to motivate him towards a new plan. Conversely, they could have just started fresh. We may or may not have liked the backstory, but rewrites are better than an unrealistic change in character or motivation for a character (in my opinion). Fries went from sympathetic to greatly despised for me, and that should not happen unless there's a very good reason for it. What are your thoughts on the matter?

I think this was my first introduction to the X-Men. I think I saw it on TV once in the 90s. I love this animation and would have loved a series with this art. I always liked this design for Dazzler. The short hair works on her and I dig the jacket. Also funny that Marvel was pushing for Aussie Wolverine and then Hugh Jackman (an Aussie) plays him. This TV movie is a classic to me and will never get old.
