I gasped as well, but if you take a step back most people who buy these monitors mount 6 of them on a wall or custom stand. I think they just wanted to lower the price as much as they could to make it most competitive.

The stand does look pretty good though, I would build my own instead though for next to nothing. Or just buy a regular stand and adapt it to make it fit, unless it has some complicated locking mechanism that can't easily be replicated.

The low end ones are definitely where Apple are going to be making their money. This is like with other high end luxury brands, they make high end luggage bags for the mega rich virtually at cost price and sell belt buckles to the masses which is where they really make their money.

As a company expense that can be written off some in taxes , not to mention they can simply sell it after they review it , it really doesn't matter if its 12k. They will mostly get to have the machine for a short time for little cost so they actually dont have to make very much ad revenue to justify it

Apple today: 1) With huge fanfare & French-sounding adjectives, labels their own revolutionary tech breakthroughs, they release stuff they took half a decade to implement or simply copy from others and/or, 2) ..sells yesterday spec'ed hardware at costs that are ludicrously laughable at best, like computers with 2-year old gear inside & less baseline storage than my mobile phone, ''starting'' at 6 grand + another 5 grand for a monitor + 1 extra grand for a stand. Now, maybe it's just me: 1) ..naively at awe by how much the tables have turned in such short time and/or, 2) ..humbly having to come to terms that the acid EVERYONE at Apple is on, must be really really good stuff.

@@isaac6705 umm they wont cost this much... if you are really nitpicky, www.amazon.co.uk/Eizo-ColorEdge-CG318-4K-31-Inch-Management/dp/B00THQQ3E0 this should be ok (i mean it will blow this out of the water... but there are some for half that price tag (or quarter of apple's), and they come with free stands! also fyi: linus is spot on the price for tower price as well and that are retail pricing, meaning apple's actual purchase/cost is gonna be a lot cheaper! @@alidee5448 There is some justification (obviously if they could get away with cheaper monitors they actually would...). In Xray and CT's (especially in mammography or neuro) they are required to use high fidelity monitors that mimic the spatial resolution of the source machine.. 15 MP medical grade monitors aren't unheard of. Afterall, even slight artifacts could lead to misdiagnosis - which will automatically cost FAR more than a "measly" one-time payment of $25k.... All-in-all the monitor is a cheap but a very important interface of the system in radiology. For instance, the software alone is like $60k (per year if subscription based sometimes), PACS systems can be a cool $1 million, and the top of the line CT and MR machines themselves can cost that much as well plus their maintenance costs. Radiologists make $+300k/year... Add that up and a $25k monitor set up shared among 5-10 readers (attending physicians, residents, students) is actually a cheap and wise investment. You have to pay to play in the big leagues. This is where money is no object... and justifiably so. If it can save a life, prevent misdiagnosis, etc... A one time payment of $25k is cheap. You'd be glad they have the best equipment out there if you had to have brain surgery or a tumor diagnosis. I was actually tasked one day to move the monitor and my supervisor was like... You know that;s a $25k monitor right? Be CAREFUL. I nearly shat myself moving it past running kids. LOL

Rendering professional 4K video will eat that storage right up. The base model literally should have at least 10tb of storage for the price. Seriously for the extra 3000 dollars, I could build a pretty nice file server with loads more storage.

High end video workflows have very little need for internal storage. Even the 4 TB SSD option is nowhere near enough. A 10 minute video project at 1080p can easily use hundreds of gigs of storage…and you can multiply that by 4 or 16 for 4K or 8K, respectively. Since pros are all using external storage, it doesn't make sense to have a large internal SSD as the base config…it will mostly go to waste, and needlessly increases the price.

Especially if it runs the OS you are used to, you make a ton of $$ editing pro content, and it has 8 GPUs. I mean that combined with apple metal engine is going to render video very quickly. Not to mention you can probably even add E GPU's for more scale-able open CL rendering.

Oh hell no, but still, because of it's release and presentation you will still have consumer-level pretend professionals trying to buy industry-grade hardware.. Well hold up for a minute, even though they market it towards industrt-standard level companies and people, it is quite cheap in that regard and it is still reachable for many consumer-level people, and that's a huge problem, it may be wildly overpriced for the normal consumer but to industry professional it is not so bad. Of course the stand is super expensive. But still.. No one can judge it from a consumer perspective, it is reachable for consumers but it was targeted at professionals.

We project it will cost us about $40K total-- give or take a few K. I would love to find an alternative, but even in our racks, where we do high dimensional data science and vis work (AI, Quantum sim, etc), or with our 8K rack for DaVinci resolve edit suites, we don't come close to what the Apple is projected to do. And the AI render rack is about $68K and he 8K units with Red support is about $32K per bay, not counting the monitor, but cannot handle what Apple has shown the new Mac is supposed to do. I know that without NVidia support on the Mac Pro, they are not fully comparable, but we also do some work on the AMD's as well, and already running into bottlenecks and other limitations constantly with the best-optimized and tweaked motherboards and other hardware on the 8K machines. In any case, I would love to see a video from you all where you integrate and bench a build of a closest direct competitor to a purpose-configured 2019 Mac Pro. We did a prelim on the closest we could research, and although it is not as optimized as the 2019 Mac Pro, we estimated about $44K-- plus about $29K more for the closest XDR pro option we currently use -- although still not really comparable-- however new options are coming out all the time, so who knows... Maybe you can come in closer, but I doubt that it would be much less than the Mac Pro, unless you make some significant downgrades from what Apple has done. But I think you already suspect this. BUT I'D STILL LOVE TO SEE WHAT YOU COULD COME UP WITH TO COME AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO A BETTER VALUE ALTERNATIVE!

Sooo when you buy, will the user of it actually be using/switching software to final cut pro for instance? There’s a huge performance gap between premiere and FCP X. Especially with this afterburner unit. I don’t know if premiere even has support for this.

pcpartpicker.com/list/87wpXP I did it because I knew it would be simple so I gave myself a few challenges I had to use a 2700 and x470 over b450 because why not. Turns out it's braindead easy. I went with asrock because they are on reccord for saying their boards work with ECC and one of the worst x470 boards because why not make it harder. The psu, GPU, case, and cooler are all just the first on the list literally. The thing parted itself out for me yet still it turned out to be cheaper.

@@darkcheaker it's weird some say it does others say it dosent it's kinda fucked. In that case just find a b450 that is proven to work with ecc. (Again not really common) it should be cheaper then the board in question. Asrock has or at least had ecc options in their bios so I went with one of their boards because I've seen it does allow them to work but I have no idea if it's still like that or not. It's not tested to work it's just not disabled as with basically every AMD chipset

point on passive coolers in an active airflow environment. They are MUCH easier to clean if and when they do get dirty(about like the large aftermarket air coolers but without the need to remove ANYTHING. because they are almost always a blow though design, instead of having a fan shroud, fan blades, grating, and ducting to get in the way on the more traditional GPU, and factory CPU cooling, compressed air at any reasonable PSI will do the trick, no need to hold the fan blades and move them around so you can get all the fins. My Dell precision T7500 was great for this, except it require the use of a CPU fan shroud to get air flow over the RAM, this fan shroud needed to be removed before cleaning, but still it was simple
