Agreed, in the past when trying to make recommendations for cheap tablets, laptops, etc., I've always found that there's a ton of reviews and it's easy to find information on high-end products, but it's been difficult to find information on the lower-end stuff. Especially for people who don't care that much, but just want something that works, lasts a while, and is a relatively good experience.

my go to strategy for good budget phones as a big brother of 8 siblings, I can safely say, as long is it has a snapdragon chip not older than 2 years and a 4200mah battery, its a good phone. For laptops, as long as it has a cpu not older than 2 years and ABSOLUTELY has an IPS screen, you're good to go. If you ever see an MX graphics card for +100 bucks, dont do it. It will probably have worse graphics than the integrated graphics on the cpu. If you need a gpu for a bit heavier tasks, only look for GTX graphics on laptops. 1050 being the minimum. (Bonus note for phones, if you plan on keeping the phone for more than 2 years, avoid AMOLED/OLED screens... they ALWAYS burn in at 1-2 years and white becomes yellow be it a 200$ phone or a 800$ one.)

Same with some of my family members - they don't want to spend more than 200€ on a phone. But I know their income, and I know they can damn well afford to spend 300, so I just tell them that 200 makes no sense since they'll have to get a new one sooner, effectively spending the same.

One thing to mention since this was made is that Samsung updated the S6 Lite to a new processor. Not a great improvement, but there is some improvement and with a refresh there is bound to be a increase in the length of time you can keep it as a useable tablet. Especially since the price remains the same.

I love budget videos like this, taking an entire market and finding the best bang for your buck out of the bunch. Only issue I have is that this video will most likely be well out of date in a couple years, so just having a yearly budget series, for phones, laptops, etc. would be great so that the budget market is always transparent and people looking for new devices always either have somewhere to get good info, or something to look forward to.

The tablet space is pretty stagnant and non competitive. Just change the year model and it will probably still hold true. a refurbed 2022 iPad will probably be the best pick in $250 (or maybe a bit more for inflation) in 2026, Samsung will probably still have the best tablet option in the android side in 2026, fire tablet ‘26 being the “I just need something to watch videos and search the web with” device. ONN being the cheapest of all options and probably the one you should just pass on. And then insert X variable unknown brand tablet that sits in the mediocre middle, not too good or too bad for the money. If this video was made 4 years ago, you’d roughly pick from the same choices. The tablet space is truly unremarkable and non-innovative even in the higher end. iPads and Samsung are the only ones duking it out and iPad really doesn’t have to try that hard to beat Samsung.

I still use it everyday for content consumption. It definitely feels slower compared to my phone. However it still works fantastic on the latest version of iPadOS. Definitely worth spending a few more dollars for what has objectively been a more enjoyable and consistent experience . (And no I did not tell her the price) A lot of people don’t understand, idiot proofing is pretty important. And yes, the upfront cost is expensive but that iPad has lasted for 5 years now with not a single call from her for help in diagnostics/troubleshooting. My wife was looking to upgrade some throw-in Huawei tablet given to her from her service provider a few years ago, and I'd actually recommended the 9th Gen iPad with LTE. She just picked it up earlier this week and no complaints so far. Goes well with the iPhone 13 she also just upgraded to from her old Pixel 3 earlier this year.

@@voteDC it can- technically... But it's gonna be painfully slow, some apps simply won't work on it (banking apps etc) and it just won't be as reliable. saying a galaxy s2 can *run* android 11 is a HUGE stretch, I loved getting android 12 on my s3 but it's not user friendly at all and far from usable as a daily driver, it was a fun project, but don't pitch it as a solution for lackluster software support. Androids don't age as well as iPhones, that's just how it is. That doesn't make Androids worse than iPhones, but they simply don't age as well, and this is very important to people that need to sell their devices before buying a new one. Thankfully this is soon to change since Android OEMS are taking software support seriously now!

My first tablet was the Onn tablet you showed. It was a good tablet while it lasted, but three months after, the battery was horrid. Even while plugged into the charger, it barely lasted 20 minutes and some days I couldn't even turn it on. I don't recommend at all. I love my S6 lite. It came with the pen ( though I don't remember it coming with replacement tips but I may be wrong ) and the pen is great! The tablet comes with a drawing app, courtesy of Samsung, and while it's not the best for detailed stuff, it's great for a beginner. Battery is working well so far after 4 months, it lasts all day and I use it pretty much all the time seeing as my schoolwork is on there ( I'm homeschooled so ). And it has a lot of storage. All my videos and apps fit well. Recommend!

I feel like that tablets is the one market Xiaomi has a power to disrupt too, especially in continents other than America like they did with their phones. That said, Xiaomi's software is not amazing by any means but you can just flash your own if you are tech savy and the hardware is affordable while being reasonably high quality. They also don't create their own "questionable" chips like Samsung.

The S6 Lite is one of the closest things to a reasonable tablet where I live. Almost everything else is either way overpriced, or utter crap, often both (even it sits at 335€, which gives you an idea of the market). I was lucky that I pulled a trigger on a different model during a pre-order period, so I got a newer, faster tablet with a bigger and better screen (but no bundled pen) for slightly less and it turned out to not be a dud. As for the older generation, my wife's grandparents have a tablet that the telecom gave them for free and it's just as bad as you imagine. It's at least relatively large, so they can read the news on it and it sort of does the job for video calls, although, when we call them, it doesn't always ring as the poor 1GB Android thingy sometimes puts Viber and Skype to sleep. I was in a state of shock when that thing died and my brother in law bought them the same one, but his reasoning was that they are at least familiar with that one and I couldn't argue with that. They are both over eighty, never owned a computer (I'm not sure about smartphones), and, you explain something to them, they get it, do it right themselves, but they often forget in a few days and they actually live in another country so it's not easy to pop by when they need their memory refreshed or have a technical issue.

The intro iPad is very worth the value considering how long they support it and how good the hardware is. I think OG Linus was right 'just get them an iPad'. I actually hated the idea of an iPad back when they first launched and were near $1k, but at around $300 it was a fine jump between my phone and desktop (I dont use a laptop), and since then I've updated to the M1 iPad.

This is how I usually argue. Yes you can get a tablet that is fine now for cheap. However you will be frustrated pretty soon. Getting an entry-level iPad (and maybe spend a bit extra on storage if you can) will give you a device that lasts for a hecking long time in tech world. One might actually say, if you split up the price over its lifespan, an entrylevel iPad with 128GB storage is pretty cheap.

After that, I had to install two apps to fix the issue (and all of it while the system was factory reset) so it's better to buy something better but I can't right now for personal reasons so instead I will share this with my friend so they can have a better time than me.

Nah, you don't need top tier socs these days, budget phones are killing it. Unless you want niche features like wireless charging or big zoom cameras, you will find yourself happy with a cheap phone. Flagships take too long to drop in price.

Great list! For the Amazon HD 10 tablet I’ve also had issues trying to find the right format to be able to watch videos from my SD card. I gave up and opted in for the APK files to get google play store and just download straight from KZfaq whatever I wanted to watch at the moment and it works fine, just not snappy.

Yeah, S6 Lite is such a good tablet. I bought it last year (for a price around that 250$ mark) so I can draw a paint while commuting and it never disappointed me. It is well built, reasonably fast for what I need it to do and the drawing experience is great.

I bought my younger sibling an S6 Lite in 2020 and they love it. For those interested in digital art on the cheap its really good, better than spending a similar amount on a dedicated drawing tablet that requires a PC and can't be moved around.

That's what my elder brother did lmao. What a coincidence. He got me S6 Lite in 2020 and I'm a (hobbyist) digital artist, though we discussed what to get before that (either S6 Lite or older S5). But yeah, can vouch it's a great tablet, even outside drawing. Very happy with it. It's also a laptop replacement since my laptop died, though I have PC as my main driver.

Yes! When I was younger, I bought a 100€ drawing tablet. It was okay, but I only used it a few times, because I just didn´t like using PC and tablet. Like 3 years ago I bought an iPad with the apple pen and it´s sooo much easier to use. Atm I have the iPad pro 12" with the 2. gen apple pen and it´s just a dream to draw on

My mom had a Samsung phone and the screen broke, the shop wanted to charge her 80 euro for new screen plus installation. She refused because in 6 months her phone contract would be up and get a new phone anyway, so she got a brand new 80 euro phone. She regretted what she done after few days of use, even saying few time "Why didn’t I just pay for the new screen, this phone is junk". Even making a new term "Fast discharging"

The Lenovo Tab P11 Plus is a decent tablet at the price point. The major shortcoming is the lack of OS update. Android 12 has been promised for the device since May. The update was released briefly with a nasty boot loop issue that required a lot of users who tried to install it to either revert back to 11 or, on the extreme case, required one to send it in to Lenovo for repair. As long as your OK with the stock OS, its fine.

I use a Galaxy Tab A. It was under $200 and still works great! I'd not trade it for even a brand new iPad. The only feature it doesn't have that I wish it did, is a built-in stylus. Beyond that, I use it for a good bit of mobile work, lots of reading and vids for entertainment and research. 👍
