Can confirm the dating thing. 38 year old dude, totally missed the boat because of life getting in the way, and I've pretty much decided it just isn't happening. Meeting people is a young person's game, and it looks weird/awkward. It's hard dealing with the extra baggage that can come along with it.

This is why I despise so many devices pushing their cloud storages in the most annoying fashion. I simply do not trust my files being stored online.

As someone who IS one of these 150$ wayfinders founders pack owners, there's a couple things i want to add. They can't refund these players, they not only lost publisher funding, but said publisher has allegedly also took a portion of the FOUNDER PACK money meant to help FUND this game. And the entire game servers, account systems they were using to save player account data, and what enabled them to have crossplay Was all of the Publisher's servers. It was all of their infrastructure. They would need to start from SCRATCH which isn't feasible. Airship's CEO JoeMad even did what we ask countless other CEOs to do, he reduced his own pay to absolutely minimize layoffs. He cares. Personally, i don't blame people for being upset, but that isn't me. I've wanted changes like this in the industry for years, and now, despite the circumstances, I'm getting it for a game i love.

1:02:00 - the files are on the top of the Gallery because they've just been "written" to the system file. This is likely happening because the update is somehow restoring all "lost files" it finds on the device. Like a filesystem repair. It finds the files without pointers and creates a NEW pointer. The metadata is old (because that's part of the file itself) but the pointer is new, so the file is on the very top.

Best thing I've found for dating and making friends as an Adult is small live music. For the most part everyone at small gigs are there to socialise as much as music. Honestly it's such a refreshing and open experience.

Just did an iOS update to 17.5 and it restored a lot of deleted photos. Here is what I can tell you: 1) It restored whole videos, photos, and saved images/screen shots since the iphone 4s throughout my camera roll. Hundreds of photos, dozens of videos. No real selection on what was restored. 2) It seems that everything restored was at some point synced to iCloud. Anything that was deleted before syncing didn't show up. 3) I've had an iphone 4s, 6s, 8s, and 12 pro max. Photos from across these devices were restored regardless of when I originally deleted them. 4) They did not show as recently saved (they are ordered by original date), but the dates seem to restore as far as 2014.

When Linus is next to Yvonne you can see how his expression change, you can feel the love there, that is so good to see even from outside.

the biggest issue with dating apps is that the incentives are backwards, each time an app matches the perfect pair that app will lose 2 customers. So dating apps don't have the incentive to actually match people.

My understanding of how deletion works is that essentially the index that tells the system where that data is is just edited to say that those cells are available rather than referencing whatever data is there and that none of the 1's and 0's are ever actually deliberately changed until that sector is actually overwritten as new data is stored there unless you run an actual data destruction program.

Theory on the photos thing: On Android, apps save versions of photos you send or receive in cache directories. Maybe that's been happening on iOS behind the scenes and the camera roll changed how it discovers photos on local storage?

Best way to socialize, that has been working for me after moving to a new city, was board gaming. You meets tons of new people and you immediatly have something to ease you into the small talk. In my case there was a regular meet at a board game club. On another note, I meet my wife at a pub quiz, same story here.

Encryption at rest is a massive faff, because if you truly leave key management/ storage completely up to the user, you have no way of helping them recover their data when their device is lost or stolen. The most practical compromise is to manage the customer’s keys for them and basically promise to not use those keys for nefarious purposes.

In case of warranty replacement the best I have had are sandisk/wd and Alienware (not dell, specifically Alienware)... Back when phones had sd card slots, apparently the gallery keep reading and writing in the sd card so much that it runs through it's life cycle pretty fast.. Had 2 cards rma'ed without any hitch.. Only the courier time +1 week for processing. Alienware before the pandemic has something like a 48hr deadline within which an on site engineer comes and replaces your motherboard or SSD or whatever is wrong, again no worries.. We liked it so much that we extended our Alienware warranty till 5 years after which the device was EOL from them.. It's still working though.. 2016 model..

Could the ios "finding" old deleted files be an issue where an old cache, trash can or on device backup was never overwritten? Maybe it was invisible or in a different file structure in a previous ios version and never overwritten but this ios version somehow "found" it again. "They said they did" is the point to question when talking about wiping a device or when deleting files, there is a good chance that the storage isn't actually being deleted to save nand wear. This inevitably is the problem with not having user accessible file systems on mobile devices.

My ipad undeleted some old photos and put them first when i was looking for an image to put in discord. All the old photos it undeleted shared a theme (video game, relax) so im wondering if apple is cataloguing our images even when all settings are off. Edit: they were not cloud saved as i have icloud turned off and they were pretty old

I have a genuine question. Is LMG still sour about Gamers Nexus exposé on them that they refuse to talk about them at all? Gamers Nexus did an amazing exposé on this ASUS issue that has so much more to unpack and discuss on the WAN show, but it seems that LMG refuses to acknowledge Gamers Nexus.

2:55 so to be clear, this is actually not a cloud provider issue as far as I understand the bug. People are having photos that have never been saved to their iCloud library show up. What’s happening from what I understand. Is that when you delete something on a ssd it actually doesn’t delete it, instead its marked it as available without actually deleting the data and then as needed, it will overwrite it with new information. Because the information is still there, it is possible to recover it as long as it hasn’t been over written. What this bug is doing is it is pulling photos that were marked as deleted in the flash but not over written and restoring them.

it's a much bigger issue than just not deleting things. i witnessed my gf's iphone se delete photos and videos to seemingly to make room for the update but then on the last update before switching to android all her videos pre 2019 were uninstalled despite having enough room for updating. this issue goes right down to the core of how apples operating system works, its amazing it works as well as it does but if you needed apple to make things reliable in the server space with their software, forget it, too convuluted.

8:06 end to end encryption is a nice keyword but it matters only if the private key is secure. If you do e2e encryption and the keys are all on the iCloud account and they are automatically downloaded upon accessing the contents then you really can claim e2e for marketing purposes but the security is the same as not encrypting.

Nand just like an old hdd does in fact still have the data in its block until its overwritten. You can use scrappers to look for the magic byte etc.

about the iPhone pictures: from using PTP to a linux machine, I've noticed that iPhone will delete the JPG, but not the MP4 "moment" (those 4-5 second clips associated with the picture) when the picture is marked for deletion... system upgrade may be recovering that, not the actual photos (JPG files)

Always reformat or use as appropriate data destruction procedure depending on the importance of the data being deleted.

QUESTION: To what extent was Apple restoring images to devices? Because they may have a larger legal issue than they realize. For instance, there are "photos" to people being victimized, like some types of photos about "People who sound like they might dig resources out of the dirt" that they, their parents/guardians, and/or law enforcement may have asked to be permanently deleted for the obvious reasons. As a parent, if I found out these types of photos of my child were resurfacing, I'd be dialing up a lawyer ASAP.

Why is LTT ignoring GN?

For the NAND flash, is data not stored contiguously? I know that the controller does wear levelling and stuff, so I’m guessing bytes are just, thrown onto whatever cell the controller determines appropriate, then adds it to the ledger. Without the ledger, all bytes are randomly mixed together, so you can’t even just, read data and look for markets (like how a lot of basic formats have their name in ASCII)

I had the same problem years ago with LineageOS (no cloud). After factory restore everything was as new, but not the gallery.

As long as Linus refuses to mention GN it just proves he is a child. You are two of the biggest tech tubers, if you can't even say their name you are a child.

I wonder how big a story GN will have to break before they will be mentioned as a source on the WAN show. First EK now this Asus RMA thing, it's a bit cringe avoiding mentioning them in these stories. GN do great work standing up for consumers and shining a light on industry mal practice. Yes they called LTT out, but LTT held their hands up and changed for the better, that was great. This feels very petty.

The most recent iOS update seems to indicate that pictures becoming undeleted is because of database corruption. I.e. a given image isn't properly marked as "deleted" in the photo database, the record was corrupted, and that update "fixed" the record and restored the image. Doesn't seem like that could be possible for images returning to a securely erased device, though.

It's only dishonest to pretend Gamer's Nexus does not exist when they've done journalism on you in the past. Gamer's Nexus did almost all the journalism and broke the story about Asus, really hate that you refuse to so much as mentioned the channel's name when it's as much their story as it gets.

For meeting people I always thought it'd be a great idea to have printed out cards with just basic contact information for dating/social purposes. Then when you meet someone interesting; say hi, strike up a conversation, or even say as little as "hey you're cute, text me" and then give your card. It's a very low pressure approach, which can be applied in all sorts of situations including concerts. Make sure it's just a plain contact card so the purpose isn't obvious. Bonus points if it's so vague that it makes them curious about why you have it, and then talk around the subject if they ask. I never got around to actually doing it cause I found dates on Tinder at the time, but I really think it'd work.

On the Apple deletion issue. I can certainly see this largely being user issues. In all examples when deleting media the device asks if you want said media deleted from ALL locations. My tip is users are getting this step wrong.
