When I made this video I didn't need to manually install the dependencies for Heroic Games, the .deb file took care of dependencies. But in some cases you might need to manually install the dependencies first. I showed how to do this in the Lutris section of the video.

I'm bingeing your videos (and just subbed). Immensely grateful for this, the whole topic has been looming higher ever since Win10 is approaching its end and Win11 is such a sh*tshow. One major game that weighs massively on my mind is MS Flightsim. It's not just the app itself, with its hefty performance requirements, but the plethors of mods and external yet integrated apps, for moving maps, ATC, navigation, all the way to the controls, yokes, pedals, etc. I've started looking but it does seem there's still a number of issues.

Thanks that's great to hear you're enjoying the videos! I don't play MS Flightsim but from what I can tell it works, but custom mods might be an issue. Generally speaking mods work on Linux but not all of them, and this might be one of those cases where it doesn't. @@PhazerTech thanks for that. my concerns also go to custom instruments, generally connected via Arduinos. you'd *think* Arduino would play perfectly nice with "actual" Linux. I've been checking aviation sites, where there's many simmers with some insane setups, and it is a bit of a minefield. Ideally I'd have one dedicated sim machine anyway - which yes, would have to run Windows, but only for one, single purpose. They can spy on my flightplans as much as they like.

@@michaelhoffmann2891 Yea it looks like it might be easier just to stick to Windows for that game. But that's really cool how you can add custom instruments based around Arduinos! I'm planning to do more videos on MCUs at some point, although I'm probably going to focus more on the RPi Pico and PIC MCUs rather than Arduino.

Linux uses less disk space than Windows. Give it a shot, you have nothing to lose if you dual boot. I'd install a few games and see how you like it first.

i cant believe this, I spent 4 hrs trying to troubleshoot a game from epic games never working on heroic launcher.. So i ended up uninstalling my current wine, and then installing the latest wine through the launcher and the game finally worked.. I was using arch so maybe there was a problem with the wine aur or something. I was getting all these errors trying to install epic games on lutris as well, what a pain..

Yes GTA 5 works, but GTA online isn't the best experience. It works but has lower FPS than Windows. Story mode should be good.

I'll add it to the bucket list but it's not an easy topic to cover because different games use different mod managers and the steps to install them can be different. It's a similar story on Windows but even more so on Linux. Some Windows mods will work on Linux, but other mods need Linux specific versions to work. For example if you wanted to mod Bethesda games then you can install the Linux version of Mod Organizer 2: github.com/rockerbacon/modorganizer2-linux-installer Personally I haven't tried that yet, but I have successfully modded MGSV and Deus Ex. Also Nexus Mods is working on a replacement for Vortex and it will have native Linux support, so maybe after that's released I'll do a video on it. www.nexusmods.com/news/14874

It's been really good for me. It's funny you asked this because my very first video on the channel was a review on a $80 laptop and I highlighted how good its performance was in Moonlight. I wasn't aware of Parsec so perhaps I'll give it a try, but like I said, I'm completely happy with how Moonlight performs.
