I'm in a toss up between this and the M7
@Gpknives
@Gpknives 5 жыл бұрын
I'd go B40 for more versatility. The M7 seems to be more of a chopper/XL Hunter.
@diderichlangmannen

The best decision is to take both because these two knives are complete different and will work perfect together. I own the M7 and it is a fantastic knife, maybe my favourite in my collection.

Looks very nice, but how thick is it behind the edge? I wasn't that convinced by the cutting performance of previous Lionsteel fixed blades, although they are always looking gorgeous...thank you

Right around 0.02 BTE so pretty average for a production knife but good for a Bushcrafter IMO. I like my folders a bit thinner but for an outdoors knife that geometry work well.

I like this knife nice quality , though I hear the sleipner steel is difficult to sharpen and rusts easy that is what all these other people say ?, Is this true and can I sharpen this in the field with a DMT diafold pocket diamond stone?. I own 1095 carbon steel knives and I like them no matter what anyone says about rust mine never rust because I oil them after use. It seems people are never satisfied with a knife or steel and want some perfect knife that does not exist. I do not care if a knife has a sharpened spine or not , I use a lighter and Exotac match case and a fire rod as last resort with its own scraper like the Swedish fire rod or others. These Lionsteel knives are nice quality for the price compared to Bark River or custom knives. Just my opinion .

I share your opinion that LionSteel makes a fine fixed blade that is highly competitive with others in the market. If you oil your blades and use diamond sharpeners I would guess you to be good to go on Sleipner. It is a semi-stainless like D2 so rust resistance is better than 1095 but not as good as say 3V or Cruwear. knifesteelnerds.com/2019/10/14/corrosion-resistance-testing/

@@GpknivesThank you for the reply ,I am undecided on this knife or the Lionsteel M4 ,though I think it would be more difficult to sharpen a M390 than a Sleipner steel?. I also have seen a Lionsteel M5 which maybe better than these other two ?. Not a easy choice because they are all nice knives.

Why wouldn’t they offer a bushcraft knife with a squared spine for firesteel striking?
@Gpknives
@Gpknives 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure but I believe I have seen someone strike a fire rod with the corner of the spine despite it being crowned.
@6Mar99
@6Mar99 4 жыл бұрын
I have a lionsteel m1 with the same spine and it can throw sparks a lot better than my ultralight bushcrafter. You just have to angle it a bit when striking a ferrorrod to the part where the curve of the spine ends to meet the side of the knife

Because they are more comfortable to use with your fingers over the top of the blade. Buy fire steel scrappers and attach them to all your ferro rods, that's what I do and it works great. Then you get the best of both worlds.

front edge of that handle looks like it was made by a ten year old rubbing the blank on a brick , i like the angular grip , but boy that looks rough. At least it looks better in G10.

Just use a ferrocerium rod with a scraper they are designed for the ferro rod and work great carry a Exotac match cap and a Bic lighter too is all you need and you are good to go . No need for a sharpened spine if you must have a sharpened spine buy a LT Wright knife. Though this Lionsteel B40 is a great deal and knife compared to LT Wright prices or Bark river. Just my opinion buy and use what you like .
