That triumph by Italy was by far the best. No one has ever beaten Germany in Dortmund with 70.000 home German fans and only 5.000 Italians. Unbelievable result ! Thank you Lippi !

Besides Trezeguet's history of missed penalties, as Lippi mentioned, he played under Lippi *and* was teammates with Buffon in Juventus -- probably meant extra pressure for him...

2:30 - 2:50 This is why one-man teams like Argentina (Messi), Brazil (Neymar), and Portugal (Ronaldo) who build their entire team around one player just don't win anything. If you want to win the World Cup, the team needs to come first and foremost before any player's ego. This was Italy's strength in 2006, Spain in 2010, and Germany in 2014. None of these teams had one star player.

they had all many star players, just not any particular player standing out from the others (e.g. Ronaldo, Messi...etc.)

2010's Spain were different case, they were full of stars. What surprised me was Netherlands, they had only like 3 star players, and they were all performing out of everyone's mind, especially Sneijder, he carried the whole team. Had Netherlands had better defenders (imagine the keeper was v Der Sar, defender was Stam), they would've won.

@@andrenapitupulu9499 I don't think the Netherlands lost because of their defense tho. Robben wasted two one-on-ones and I don't remember any major mistakes made by the defenders in the final.

great coach he get in my top 100 best coaches ever // it's really a shock to know that italy isn't present at the World Cup , in russia , and miss this good philosophy and skillz or defence ...italy lost against sweden because the forward players didn't score , not because the defenders

Oh I remember what a glorious time, Liverpool becoming European champions year before as Italy winning World Cup I was in heaven. Also my roger Federer winning Wimbledon - at his peak! That was a wonderful time

Lippi for me was the best coach, the only flaws in his career were his mistreatment of Baggio and the high number of finals lost with Juventus. But surely a World Cup title has to cancel out all that. He truly masterminded that success, Italy were a mess when he took over after 4 years of dinosaur-style football by Trapattoni.

It takes balls to play with 4 forwards vs Germany in that stadium in semi-final of WC. Italy definitely deserved to be champions. Btw, Germany has never beaten Italy in major tournament.
