i love seeing these old Honda fours being kept on the road whether customised or not. Luckily in the US you had that many imported and sold years ago that there are still plenty available these days at very reasonable prices. Sadly in the UK we did not have the massive numbers so these bikes are very sought after and thus command a premium price in particular the 750 fours where a mint example will go for around £10 GBP or 11.5 USD, still great to see, I love your videos keep them coming.

Regarding the front brake: make sure the caliper can "float" i.e. it rotates freely on its post with the wheel off, they often seize up.

Hey Taylor. I'm doing a restore on a 72 CB500 and this is going to be SUPER valuable to me. You having to tear down the top end, will totally help me get my restore done. I know you don't want to make a SUPER long video, but I'm telling you, this will help SO much. Got a question. Do you usually work on your motors on the bench or in a stand? Or even on the bike? I'm new to bikes, but not new to working on engines / cars. Thanks!!

From Alfonso Cordova…..Great content, fun watching you problem solve. I’ve viewed your videos over and over as I am a visual hands on learner. I am mechanically inclined and have decided to tackle a build ( Honda Cb 550 76 of course) I have always admired the style of build that you admire, super duper cool !! I am in my early young 50s and am glad to have happened upon your content. Good compression is a must as I am afraid to tackle pistons and rings. A build is exactly what I didn’t know I wanted to do. Also nice to hear that your self and wife were able to have fun in Italy. You seem sincere and genuine , very likable qualities. Look forward to viewing next chapter. Our Father be with you 😃

It can’t be very hard to rebuild these with a little machining and new piston rings, she’ll be good as new. Even if parts are hard to find, the hardest part would be to find out the piston walls have distorted and it needs to be rehoned. I can’t imagine it’s easy to come by oversized pistons for these old engines.

Hey Taylor, another great video as always. I’ve been I’ve been obsessed with this style of bikes for years specially the Hondamatics but finally I have an itch to build one. I’ve never ridden though AND I’m only 5’6 with a 29 inseam on a good day… I love the look of the 500/750 but I feel they might be too big for me. What’s the size difference between a 400/500/750? I’m considering a cb/cm400a or cb750a. What would you recommend? Thanks!!!

MMO has a decent percentage of mineral spirits which is a good solvent...softens carbon.Also future reference, any of the ester based synthetic oils are highly detergent by nature...running an ester based synthetic will clean petroleum gunk off the inside of any engine.
@RockandrollNegro
@RockandrollNegro 2 жыл бұрын
Some synthetics have a high detergency, but it's more of a cumulative effect. If you're starting off with something heavily neglected, you need something a little more radical, like Marvel, to start attacking deposits. But nothing AS radical as Seafoam or an engine flush.

The funny thing is those CB500;s ran terribly, probably due to low compression even new from the factory. I worked at a dealership that spent countless hours tying to improve the very poor performance from a customer's new CB500, everything was tried, I test rode the bike for many miles, and it was like a bad dream, couldn't get out of its own way at full throttle. I presently have a vintage motocross bike with a SL125 engine basically one cylinder off the 500 and it also runs poorlyfor no reason other than maybe very low compression due to a high performance camshaft effectively lowering the running compression.
