Something that would solve quite a bit of your frustrations with this medium is simply using the cap as a mixing palette! You mentioned that with watercolors you have more control of your pigment strength, but you didn’t seem to realize why that is. A major factor is that with watercolor you usually use a mixing surface to dilute your colors, you would almost never work directly from the pan or tube,. Despite the similarities between the two mediums you weren’t using a mixing palette with the liquid graphite at all, which means you were always going to pick up the graphite at full strength because you had no way to dilute the pigment into the water held in the brush.

There are Graphite pencils by Faber Castel that are water-soluble. I use those for that kind of artwork. Otherwise, I would suggest you use a ceramic water color palette (those pretty flower ones) to control the dilution better. I use those for ink wash aswell
@Phenrex
@Phenrex 3 жыл бұрын

@@Phenrex I actually use them the same way I would use ink wash. Or when I have a graphite drawing where I want to have a more solid darker area. The good thing about them that once water-activated they don't smear and are secure on the paper (can't erase them either)

Video mini-series idea: 4 seasons art challenge. Create an artwork/sculpture using different things that represent each season. So for summer you could make something with sand, for autumn you could use fallen leaves, snow for winter, and flowers for spring.

You could try a watercolour palette like you use with watercolour paints, to get more control over the pigmentation? Also derwent make a watercolour palette where there are lots of colour pans with graphite in them too.
