She is celebrated in all her guises in a Prom led by Jules Buckley and the Metropole Orkest, together with special guests, Lisa Fischer and Ledisi.

Actually one of the very best ensemble renditions of this song “Four Women” was when Dianne Reeves, Simone (Nina’s daughter), Angélique Kidjo, and Lizz Wright performed this on a continuous tour celebrating Nina Simone back in 2009!

The whole song is from the slavery milieu. It speaks about savage beatings, the rapes, the forced prostitution at plantation sex parties of our ancestors (male and female) and the subsequent result of slavery.

I just watched THE BET performance, and it played this next; my eyes began to well up on Lisa...and continued. I felt every single one of these women's stories. They all are personal & can be any black woman we know...ANYWHERE in the world. The descriptions seem to be about older women, however 2 of them are my life story. Bless the writer, producer & EVERY person who sings this song.

The fabulous singing aside……there is not a better orchestra on this PLANET than the mighty Metropol Orchestra! I dare you…find a rival..there is none. Every musician, and I mean EVERY….musician knows their role and hits the mark every time! I’ve been listening to them perform for years and every performance is a new and exciting experience! No Abundant....with the exception of the original...there is only one other rendition that comes close to the original intent of taking you on a powerful rollercoaster ride the lyrics evoke and that is by Labelle in a live rendtion from 1972.

I had the great privilege of having a chat with her outside a theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue last year, she was waiting fir a friend and i was in my wheelchair and I had no idea who I was talking to, other than she was very beautiful and charismatic. In those few minutes of casual chat, I felt more visible than I had in ages. Thank you, for those minutes and for the great art that you are. Plus I did go to the art show at the serpentine gallery you recommended. I hope to see you in concert soon.

This live performance is good just as the live performance of Lizz Wright (one of my most favorite vocalists of all time!), Lisa Simone, Dianne Reeves, and Angelique Kidjo which I had seen and enjoyed from several years ago. The vocals from the four vocalists in this video and the orchestra sound good BUT a little too showy/Broadway-like for this powerful song, Four Women by late great Nina Simone. Nina Simone's original version is the best because it is very harsh and direct with each story in the song and she's mostly speaking it! Thank you for posting.

Oh my goodness! I saw that version too with Lizz Wright whom I absolutely appreciate, Dianne, Angelique & Simone. Lizz & Dianne are so underappreciated in America, it's mind boggling to me. Truth be told, they get more love from an international audience.
