Hello! We, the Portuguese, invented the ATM system. don't use the euronet machines, they always charge you extra, besides that conversion scam. Use those that say "Multibanco", which are the original ones, not tourist traps. Those grocery shops you show, with the flashy signs, run by Paquistanese immigrants, are not genuine in any way. The real Portuguese grocery stores are usually run by Portuguese people and you'll notice that fresh produce are mostly better quality. Small supermarkets are also a good option, and you have plenty of them, even at Baixa. Then you have the actual Mercados, where you get the freshest produce, but those usually only open in the mornings, or, if they're open in the afternoon, there's not much left. You usually have one per neighbourhood, except for the touristy neighbourhoods. I hope this helps.

Good information. One other tip that I tell friends is to only use ATMs at a bank when the bank is open. That way if your card gets eaten, you can just walk into the bank and talk to someone.

Interesting that you found the elevator on the West side of the Baxia (you can also use the ones in a chain store to do the same thing), but there is also one on the East side, which takes you halfway up the hill to the Castle. Cross the road and walk past the supermarket (pingo doce) and there is another elevator that takes you 90% of the way up. With a great bar on the way. Plus many of the trams are there to get up the steepest of the hills. If in doubt, ask a local.

Hope the tips help! You can check with T-Mobile about their roaming packages, I have no idea what they offer. While that would definitely work, we only spend about 30-60 days in each country, so a local bank account is a huge hassle for the short amount of time. We were there in September 2022…no masks/proofs of vaccines required anywhere we went. My best guess is that they may be required in hospitals. Luckily we had no need for medical care on this trip, so I can’t speak to hospitals specifically.

Lisboa is now a huge tourist zoo. Super expensive towards to rip off, over crowded by thousand of tourist, with long queues everywhere to visit interesting spots. Believe me when I say it's become an unbearable city to visit (and live in), especially if you want to experience quality tourism and hate crowded cities.

Considering the supermarkets: that’s absolutely not accurate. There are supermarkets everywhere. Sometimes 4 different chains in the same area.
