I doubt it. She.s been coat tailing off that name from the beginning. Hardly a double portion. She is no Donny Hathaway. There is a reason why she is always doing remakes and only has one or two original songs after 30 years. Having a famous father doesn't make u an automatic singer or success.

Love Lalah, it’s called polyphonic singing and while she’s not the only one that can do it it is quite difficult, she’s singing an undertone pitch with an overtone she can control at will. If you never have, do a KZfaq search of “advanced polyphonic singing” you’ll be in for a real treat.

So far it's found in 3 separate cultures and as much as she's traveled to Africa, wouldn't be surprised if she learned it from someone in the Xhosa tribe in South Africa, also can be found in Mongolian culture and Eskimo women were known for it but it was banned by Christians who said it sounded satanic

I’ve never seen another SANGER in my entire life that can do what Lalah can do. I remember watching her show at Berkeley College of Music in Boston, sitting next to her mother and Lalah held a note so long the band stopped playing to pay her homage. Shes a VOCAL Olympic gymnast and genius. By the way, her band was made up of all Berkeley college students. It was the most amazing goal performance I’ve ever seen in person. Flawless. Perfect. The BEST

It's polyphonic overtone singing, or diphonic singing which is the ability to sing 2 different notes at once by learning to carefully manipulate the vocal tract.

Rachelle Ferrell and Lalah Hathaway, 2 of the most gifted singers ever to grace a stage, are still under recognized. Rachelle will blow the house down with the power of the vocal aerobatics only she can do. Lalah sits on the chair right in front of you and washes over you like melted Belgian chocolate and smooth caramel infused vanilla cream. She may have been sitting down, but you can see how her core is engaged and wow!! Mr. Donny Hathaway approves!

As @LalahHathaway was nearing the end of her scat/run. You could hear her vocal folds begin to separate on the lower register. Then she finished with the full on harmony. AMAZING!! 💜💜💜💜

Lalah said at first she found she was only able to do it when she was tired, thats how she discovered it. PLEASE keep trying, and come back when you find it again, because i know you will!! 💯❤️
