Where is it? Who knows! They tell me I'm an affiliate but I have yet to see a single penny from over 6 years of sharing my links. Why do I keep doing it? It's set up I guess. And it's easy to copy and paste from another video description without having to think too much about what's on there. So use the link, don't use the link. It really makes no difference to me, I'll not see a penny from your purchase anyway!

Yeah, they fired their record label and made this album, and released it, on their own. So even though it's not their best selling album, they made more money on it. Record labels are crooks. They take significantly more money from artists than they should. In Rainbows sold around 4.5 million copies, to date, while OK Computer has sold nearly 8 million copies. Yet they made more money off In Rainbows.

Radiohead made a boatload of money off the digital release. Reports vary, but Wired magazine reported that the band got about 3 million pounds in sales almost immediately. Importantly, a sizable percentage of downloaders voluntarily paid about what an album typically cost, but the money wasn’t being picked clean by record industry weasels.

Since I have equal reverence for three of their albums, I like to look at In Rainbows as their light peak, and the one-two punch of Ok Computer-Kid A, their dark peak. A band worthy of all who dwell in either light or shadow.

The level of sheer hard work, attention to detail, natural talent, ability to push the envelope and at the same time be incredibly popular, meaningful and accessible; and, to the best of their ability, to remain as ethical as they could be when they had to negotiate the music industry on a huge scale; and (most importantly) to create some of the most touching and thought-provoking music that you could turn your ear to, makes them probably the best modern band of all time. Jus' sayin. ps. Have you heard A Moon Shaped Pool album? If not, then a blind reaction video is essential. Just you wait.

Exactly. I’ve been saying Radiohead is for me THE example of modern Prog rock. Not bands playing warmed over music using Prog as a genre. Here’s the YES section, followed by the Tull folky section followed by etc. Radiohead ticks all the Prog boxes without copying or even trying to be “ prog “. Just being creative.

Radiohead never go for the obvious timbres and textures but you can always rely on their natural affinity for rhythm. Thom Yorke is also an idiosyncratic voice and appreciation of him depends on your tolerance for falsetto. I've never considered this album as good as Kid A, OK Computer or even The Bends but it's still a great listen.

I grew up watching The Beatles appear on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time and falling in love with them, but Yes is firmly in second place, as far as my favorite bands; however, Radiohead is right up there, in my top 7 favorite bands, constantly slipping into third place on many occasions. That seems extremely unlikely. Of all the freemium products that exist (tiered payments) there is a lot of data that shows 5-10% convert into paid customers. 90-95 stay free. But, it was very marketed so MAYBE more people paid $1 than ever?

@@travispeterson8952 They made a lot more than they ever did conventionally because of their fan base, a lot of them actually paid for it and even the people who didn't pay much still paid something. They were surprised at that and didn't expect it to happen but Radiohead fans are loyal and they really love the band it means a lot to them. I should say us.

@@jameshannagan4256 A quick google (if true) says they made $3mn or $6 on average. 500k albums sold for $6. FANS and listeners are not the same. I think Jim is correct that if it was successful they would have done it again. It was cool and fun. but not financially successful if that was the goal.

If you get a chance you should absolutely check out their 15 Step performance from the Grammys in I believe 2008. Hail to the Thief has some amazing songs on it for your playlist, but as an album is Radiohead's weakest since Pablo (still very very good though). It's a bit of a mess really compared to the others. Take AMSP as an example, beautiful soundscape of an album, though you may listen to more tracks on a mixed playlist from HTTT. In Rainbows and OKC are Radiohead's best albums and 2 of the best of all time. I would say that Kid Amnesiac collectively is unbelievable and is my favourite if you could count this as an album. Also the new Smile record is up there with the best that Radiohead have done, absolutely awesome that new album, but i don't like to rank anything until at least 1 year after it has been out.

Good evening Jim, Hope you had a good vacation apart from yesterday. I never was interested in Radiohead. I heard a few songs and I didn’t really like them at all then. Hearing the first song, my opinion hasn’t changed. Same for the second song. I listen and think…why did they record this? No, Radiohead is not meant for me. By the way, I did a bicycle ride north of where I live next to and partly through the nature reserves there. Look for the fietstocht video.

For my part, when I listen to something I don’t like, I just move on without commenting. I can’t see a reason to lodge an ‘I really don’t like this..’ for an infinitely small portion of the world to see; to me it accomplishes precisely nothing. I don’t believe we’re keeping score - and most people are here to have fun with music they already like, or are happily discovering something new. The number of positive comments vs. negative are the proof. So, I’m (actually truly) curious, what function are you serving for yourself when you tell about 300 random people that you don’t like something? My bet is that my comment to you also accomplishes precisely nothing :)

Do me a favor and watch the whole basement session for TKOL and then tell me it sucks.
