Well after 7 albums of amazing highs and new soundscapes we have finally arrived to "In Rainbows". an album that I have been hearing so much about since I started checking out Radiohead on the channel. This bands ability to continue reinventing itself on each project has been such a marvel. How will this follow up to "Hail to the Thief" sound... well based on everything I had heard, this album was going to be special.
My name is Jack and I love music, in particular Hip Hop, I decided to make this channel as a way to engage with other music lovers and because there doesn't seem to be a lot of reaction channels on KZfaq...My goal has always been to be open to all types of music regardless of my love of Hip Hop, on this channel you can expect a rich array of genres. If you're keen to join me on my music journey then please subscribe, if you ever want to give your thoughts on an album or song that I have reacted to, then please do. I want this channel to be a community and if you love music of any genre then welcome!!!

This album meant a lot to me as a young adult. They released this album for free (or rather using a ‘pay what you want’ model) on their website. This was way before music streaming was even a thing, of course. It was a bit of a publicity stunt, but it worked in their favor. I downloaded it for free, burned it on cd, but also ended up buying the cd AND the vinyl over the next year they released it. Really was an anomaly, release-wise.

@marinaposting
@marinaposting Жыл бұрын
@@venori5785 in rainbows is definitely more straight forwards, less complex, but that's because the band perfected the creation process, and the album was produced for digital playing directly, not for analogue and then converted into digital, so it sounds slightly better, and to me honestly, in rainbows has more tight sounding songs than kid a and okc
@mikeodil7721
@mikeodil7721 Жыл бұрын
@@venori5785 I completely agree with everything you said. I think perhaps OKC & Kid A are the more experimental roads that leads us to that “cleaner” solid & consistent sound we get on In Rainbows. And I feel the same way about a couple of albums from Arcade Fire: Neon Bible & The Suburbs. The former pacing the way clear the more sophisticated latter. In fact, I could probably make a case that Funeral is AF’s version of The Bends.

I first heard In Rainbows a few months after its release after my older sister had recommended it to me. It was my first exposure to Radiohead beyond Creep, so I was not expecting for the album to sound like it does. At the time, I was listening to heavier music and didn't have too much exposure to the interesting sound pallet this album provides. I was intrigued, and enjoyed it quite a bit, but it wasn't until the fourth or fifth time listening through the album where everything just clicked. The "wall of sound" crescendo in All I Need is the moment I knew I would never listen to music the same way again. Hit me like a ton of bricks. Opened the door to so much more music that I would not have listened to otherwise. In Rainbows is still one of my favorite albums of all time. I love that you connected to Videotape straight away as I always thought of this as one of their biggest growers. The piano sounds like it’s the beat but it’s actually slightly syncopated which comes through more on the live version and honestly elevates the track to new heights . Flying over to Australia tomorrow, exciting to work in your beautiful country!

You still have Disc 2 to go through if you'd like to extend this mood a bit more. It starts with a continuity from Videotape. I'd say it's a bit more focused on Tom's voice and what it can reach, and I don't mean just harmonicaly. Particularly Go Slowly is my Radioheads "eargasm" voice wise. Two songs in there helped me getting some tears out on tough moments. I think the thing I love the most on their music is that, throughout all their musical "journeys" you can find yourself re-living harsh feelings but... it's like you can now look at them with someone on your side who understands and help you putting it in words. Beauty is added to the saddest of feelings and you find peace on every tough journey life's put you through.

OK, this is my third and final comment. What an amazing 10 years… OK, computer, kid A, Amnesiac, hail to the thief, wrapping up with in rainbows… they all hit hard, and from the very first listen in rainbows was a powerful album. This album has the most songs currently in my rotation, and still very much a part of my current musical lexicon. In my circle… And it must be noted… we largely listen to hip-hop… But in my circle, it was the album that everybody agreed on the most, and thought was the best from the very first listen. I have always taken a Radiohead album and excepted it as it was… With no complaint, but for the very first time I will say, I miss this brand of Radiohead… It was the culmination and the pinnacle for me. To be clear, Radiohead and Thom Yorke have many other songs that are my favorites, but as a whole, this is probably my favorite album.

Agreed. I love a lot of their other albums but I think In Rainbows feels less experimental and more assured than any other album. Almost a dance album in some respects. Like they set out to make their own twisted version of a pop album.

I absolutely loved this 😁 I steered away from Radiohead for quite a few years… then returned when A Moon Shaped Pool came out. When I revisited ‘In Rainbows’ it got inside me right away. I can’t get enough of Radiohead… but ‘In Rainbows’ is like a comfort blanket now!

Bro I love so much that you are posting these. Radiohead is my all time favorite band, and I actually don’t know a lot of people who nerd out on Radiohead like I do. So watching these videos is like hanging out with someone listening to my favorite music and talking about it. I do wish you had more commentary lending to your musical background. Radiohead is certainly a musician’s band. And I also wish you played the full length of each song, with more of your commentary to color it. An example is a classical composer who did a couple in-depth listens to OK Computer, look it up if it’s interesting to you. That’s just feedback from one guy and I’m sure others have different opinions. Great work and thank you for the content!!

In Rainbows was an album that cliques immediately for me. Like every Radiohead album however, with every subsequent listen it just became more and more beautiful. Today it is my favorite album of theirs. When I was younger it was definitely the Kid A/Amnesiac albums.

Thanks for your reaction, especially for appreciating Videotape so much. For me, Videotape is one of the most beautiful Radiohead songs, but people usually neglect it. And to answer your question - yes, In Rainbows hit me immediately when I first heard it, while OK Computer took me few years to fully appreciate and love.

Phil Selway is the bands safe space with Colin they create a scene for me reminiscent of a desert road and line of telegraph poles extending into the distant perspective, with the swirling birds sand storms and tumbleweeds of the others living around them.

Loved your reactions to these albums. Especially appreciated the Kid A reaction haha. Love how you really get lost in these ❤ Cant wait to see you react to moon shaped pool. The King of Limbs is great but MSP is my personal favorite album. A cohesive masterpiece of a journey with every song hitting hard and emotionally imprinting thoms vocals & their masterful instrumentations into you It really is Radiohead at their fully developed peak. Similar to how All I Need plays as a more matured Creep, MSP plays like a culmination of the bands personal growth and the sounds theyve gathered over the years Cant wait! ❤

I subscribed to your channel after your first Radiohead reaction vid in the hopes you’d get to this one, so I’m stoked you got to give it a listen. Back in the day I made it a whole project trying to get into Radiohead and I found it really difficult (Hail to The Thief was my favorite of the discography), but then I heard In Rainbows and for some reason it made the band suddenly make sense to me. It’s my favorite record of theirs and in my top 5 of all time. It’s so gorgeous to this day and you’re right, I still hear new details in it to this day. It just grows better and better every listen. 100% recommend their Live From The Basement performance. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi live sounds incredible.

I'm glad you enjoyed this album. While I struggled to get into Radiohead's earlier work on first listen (especially Kid A and Amnesiac), In Rainbows hooked me right away. The only track that I wasn't big on was Videotape, but that has grown on me over time and it's still getting better today. I'm very interested in what you'll think of The King Of Limbs. It's definitely a hard first listen because of how jarring it is, but if you give it time you might see how great of an album it is. I get that it's not for everyone, but I feel that a lot of people don't give it the chance and just write it off as bad.
