Listening to the world: The SWL DXing news report (episode 1)

Welcome to the first episode of the SWL DXing news report! This is my new podcast series where I'll be bringing you regular updates on what's happening in the world of shortwave and medium wave DXing. We'll cover everything from frequency changes and new stations to stations ending transmissions, transmitter news, exciting radio finds, and anything else about the DXing hobby.
This won't be a strictly weekly feature, but a way to keep you informed with news reports and information gathered from various sources as and when I find new information. It's presented in a podcast format, so you can enjoy it with visuals or just listen on the go - perfect for commutes, workouts, chores, anything!
Feel free to recommend news items you'd like me to cover in future episodes!
In this episode you can hear about a major new investment in SW broadcasting by a big international broadcaster, about another broadcaster ending some transmissions, how Voice of Hope Africa is working around extended, planned power cuts in Zambia and more. I also provide a short propagation outlook for the next two weeks.

Thank you so much for your comment! Like you, I also returned to SWL about three years ago. I was a keen DXer in my teen years, and then drifted away. Now, some decades later, I am back and enjoying every minute!

Great idea and thank you for your efforts! It’s good to have a SW channel from your continent, most videos are a view from Europe or North America. Good news on Exterior España. I was recently on holiday in Spain and took the TEF6686. The country is rich in radio listening options, lots of MW and FM stations, there seemed to be red and white masts every few miles. Quite easy to pick up some North African stations from there too. 73 Franco

Hi Franco, thank you so much for your comment. Very interesting what you say about Spain. It is great that they are still using FM, SW and MW. I have actually caught two Spanish MW signals here in South Africa, it's fun for me to keep trying to catch those.

Love the AI generated images, Andre! I really like this format as it reminds me of Al Jazeera's podcast on TouYube. They use graphics sparingly, probably serving as a screen saver on full screen mode, LOL. 📻☺ The best thing is that, you don't have to upload eleven minutes' worth of live footage of your radios at home, although a closeup of your Sony ICF-J40's translucent green dial pointer at 07:24 was a very nice touch indeed. 😎 Great job, Andre...will be looking forward to RAI Digital broadcasts from now on. 🙏 P.S. Mixing random sounds of shortwave radio propagation fades into your voice stream would be quite interesting to listen to. It's a just a thought I've had in my mind for a while. Simulating how Radio Ifryika FM would sound from your QTH would be a great idea for a podcast about SW radio updates around the world. 🌏👍

@@swlistening My china, you've just leveled up your channel by quite a few notches! 👍🏼👍🏼 Andre, I've already told you that your voice is very suitable for the radio medium. It's a gift that you have.. Embrace it. Some people have a commanding, pleasant and soothing voice that really grabs the listener's attention. I have a rather nasal sounding tone and I don't really like how my voice sounds and I have to live with it. 😐 If you narrated an hour long documentary I will not fall asleep! 😄 Looking forward to your next podcast from Radio Andre International! ☺️📻👏🏼🌍🎙️

This takes me back a bit. I have a Barlow Wadley XCR-30 one of your country's better products. Bought it while working at the S.A. Navy's transmitter station at Goedverwacht in the 1970s and still have it. Excellent piece of kit!

Can you make this series available as a bona fide podcast, available on Apple Podcasts or such? Just a suggestion, that would give a wider audience.

Hi Paul, thank you so much for the suggestion. I haven't actually thought of this, but I will look into it for sure. I know KZfaq now has a podcast tab and they are quite keen to promote podcasts, that is why I used it. But it makes sense to look at other options.
