Princess Anne’s mysterious head injury ‘consistent with being struck by horse’s head or legs’

“It really does take something to slow Princess Anne down.”
Princess Anne, usually a “vital part of the royal machine” will be missing from engagements this week as she recovers in hospital from a minor head injury. It’s thought she was involved in an accident with a horse but “it remains unclear quite how this happened”.

A horse has a powerful neck with 40 pounds of bony head which can swing sideways and hit you hard. I saw stars when it happened to me! My horse didn't mean anything by it, bless him.

Hardly mysterious that a person with a head injury can't remember the incident. My Grandad died from being kicked in the head by a horse.

Get well soon, Princess Anne! Being knocked down by either a horses head swinging or if she was bent over checking a horses leg she could have got a knee in the face...so many scenarios..but if she was out cold, did someone come looking for her or did she get herself up and back home? A kick even from unshod hoof would leave a tell tale mark..

It can happen. Lifelong equestrian here - having worked on a horse farm with 25+ horses you can be as careful as possible but stuff still happens

Agreed. She's very experienced with horses. She knows what she's doing. This can happen to any horse owner/equestrian.

Awww…She is my FAVOURITE!!!!! I have unlimited respect & honour for her.…. Concussions are no joke. The brain requires rest, more rest & then even more rest to fully heal & I fear that may be difficult for her as she is accustomed to being very active. Holding Princess Royal Anne in my prayers. 🙏💙

Lifelong equestrian here. Horses can be very expressive by getting that head going. When you get clocked by a head in motion it knocks you down efficiently. Stuff happens often.

I had a friend headbutted like that and she suffered severe concussion. The horse swung it's head up as she leaned over to do something.

That's sad your friend experienced that, but it has NOTHING to do with Princess Ann. You are trying to tie some connection to the Princess Royal which has not connection.

Hope PA has a swift recovery. If she was patting a horse and it swung it's head quickly, maybe because of flies, PA could easily have been headbutted. It happens very quickly and is very painful. Loss of memory would be very likely.

No one has mentioned this is not her first concussion. 1976 her horse fell on her and she was knocked out. The Queen pitched a fit and said her compitition days were over. This can't be good.

Concussions are often minor and patients not kept in hospital overnight. They can check for brain bleeds with CT Scans. Reasons for cautious watching include period of unconsciousness, severe symptoms (vomiting, vertigo, headache), age, or even position in the Constitutional Monarchy when the King himself is ill! Is it another slow news day?

THEY think she was headbutted by the horse. Wonder how the horse it doing? GOD Bless Princess Anne....may she make a full and rapid recovery! Memory loss is common in injuries like this....the electrical system is scrambled, and short term memories don't become long term memories. She'll remember walking in the field, fairly near the horse, and then waking up on the ground. The accident never comes back. If someone can describe their whole head injury, it didn't happen...at least the head wasn't injured.

We riders know how horses think individually. We never revenge a horse what they ever do. And we go to meet this very horse as soon as we can. If a horse threw us off the back we climb immediatedly back.

If she was out on her own probably concuscion. My donkey gets a bit excited when feeding treats and their heads whip upwards hard and fast. I feel it's unlikely a kick as she wouldn't put herself at risk unless there were several horses pushing each other. I hope she is ok soon❤ . Im glad she had help nearby.

Something may have frightened horse. I pray no one gave horse anything to act aggressive. That horse knows Anne well, horses usually do trust and bond with their riders. Of course any animal can be unpredictable at times. But I’m sure c will be investigated. I hope so for Royals security. Things like this may look innocent but not necessarily so. Those animals have to be double checked . But could b something may have frightened horse or startled it. Another animal.

They are watching here carefully for her to be in hospital for so long but that is good she is veing loiked after. I guess with previous bumps to her head they need to be extra careful and getting older. That's goingbto take the wind out of her sails for a bit. Speedy recovery Princess Anne ❤❤

Being around horses is always a risk. They're big, heavy, they kick and bite, and they don't care if they hurt you. Anne knows that better than most, but fear isn't a part of her. Hope she's going to be OK.

A great many horses never kick or bite and take care not to hurt the humans around them. It is of course still possible to get injured by any horse because of their size without there being any evil intent by the horse.

What on earth is she doing mounting a horse at 73? Our bodies are much stiffer at that age and less able to react to jerks, etc. She should take up swimming etc.

You don't get hit by a horse's leg. That's nonsense. You can get kicked though, but on the head? Sounds too high. Could have been head butted, flies are annoying this time of year. My daughter was in the field with her pony and a trailer rattled by on the road. The pony spooked into her and sent her flying and she knocked her head on the ground.

Many people who suffered concussions may get dementia years later. She was either headbutted, or kicked by a horse in the head which is something very serious. Her brain was affected. She doesn't remember the accident, which is a bad sign.

I was involved with some in Australia.one actually bolted On me and I jumped off Fracturing my wrist Anyway took proper lessons And learnt to ride properly Darwin Alice springs then England Northumberland A weeks riding along hadrians Wall had a fantastic horse Well behaved... then took up hiking which continues to Present day!
