Thank you for the excellent demonstration. I think there is lot of misconception regarding the function of BMSs on the internet. I always though that the balancer keeps the same voltage on each cell connected in series no matter what state of charge they are in. Thank you very much for clearing this up for me.

When do the balance only boards start balancing? Most BMS only balance at near 4 volts, id like the balance to start early, maybe anytime it is charging, although I guess it is more efficient when the charge current is greatly reduced, at near full charge. I think anytime it is charging would be better, (* sorry you answered most of my questions,* )

What you want is called an "active balancer", they will take power from cells with more voltage and delivery it to those with less power. They also have the benefit of not balancing by wasting power via a resistor too.

I am a beginner in this topic. You have excellent videos and they are all very informative. I watched the full length of this video and you said that this balancer when used should not be connected to a charger. What can you recommend to use as a balancer at the same time a charger with OV, OC, UV protection features? Sorry for the newbie question.

Thanks for the effort in creating this informative video. I am searching for how BMS balancing works and your video gave me a very good concept. In your video, you demonstrated how the balancing works and showed the 66mA current for one battery. Do you know how much would be the current or how it would flow when two batteries (say, battery 1 and 2 which are next to each other) are doing balancing? How much would be the current value and what are their direction on B0, B1 and B2 lines? I am new in learning electronic so please forgive me if this is a dumb question.

When battery1 and battery2 are being balanced, I believe B1 and B2 lines would both carry 66mA. Then, where do these current go? Back to the batteries via B0? If yes, then B0 would be -132mA and -132mA would then go through battery1.....it doesn't make sense if this is the case. Anyone can help to answer this?

What does balancing a single cell actually mean? Isn't the point of balancing to even out the difference in voltages between cells in a series pack? If there's just one cell then what's the point of using a balancer? I'm new to working with batteries and want to learn as much as I can before even actually touching one.

Amazing. Explanation was very useful. Sir I have question, I've been looking for the answer. Does it support balance discharging, as it use to balance charge, because I have a 3s4p battery which I use for backup of my router, but I also want to add a mobile power bank board which uses 3.7 to 4.2 voltage, can I connect it's terminals with B- and B1 whare voltage are 3.7 to 4.2 (1st cell) while also using 12.6 voltage also for sometimes,also tell me if I do something like this and charge my stuff using that powerbank module then will it consume first parallel 4 cell or the whole battery pack by synchronizing with other cells in series. Please tell me , or please test this for me and others if you can. I'll be very thankful to you. And also one more thing.

can you add a parallel resistor with the 62 ohm, to increase the balance current? say a 220ohm to get a slightly higher balancing current? it looks like the FET would be able to take it.
@robojax3 жыл бұрын
no you can't. the resistor is connected/disconneced by a transistor/mosfet and all the current will pass through that transistor. The transistor has rearting for certain current and it will burn. unless you change the transistor to higher current value.

Dear Robojax. I have a question for you please. I am trying to use the same 40A 3S balancing board on my 3S pack. It has 43 Ohm balancing resistors also. My pack is off balanced and C1=3.6V, C2=4.1V and C3=4.0V. When I supply the charging voltage (12.6V), the C2 reaches 4.2V after some time and starts dissipating heat through it's balancing resistors. At this time, the charging is also becomes OFF and the other two batteries don't get a chance to raise their voltage. So, I am worried about how the balancing is supposed to work in a well off-balanced pack like mine. Can you please explain.
@robojax3 жыл бұрын
We have one channel for each cell. One battery should not affect the other.
@kamaledirisinghe3 жыл бұрын
@@robojax Hi Robojax, thanks for your answer. Does that mean, when one cell reaches 4.2V, it turns off "only that cell" and keep charging the other cells ?
@johnkoski43388 ай бұрын
@@kamaledirisinghe After several discharge-and-charge cycles the batteries will finally achieve balance. The cells that reach 4.2 V first will repeatedly discharge to the recover voltage (about 4.0 V) and so the whole stack approaches balance.

66 mah of balance in 4.23 is not very little it does not reach 10% of the capacity of the battery. To properly balance a battery it needs to operate at 4.1 volts at a current of 10% of the battery.
