As many of you all know, I use an 18v Rechargeable Makita drill & and angle grinder.
Unfortunately, the last of the 4 battery packs stopped working the other day leaving me without the use of either of the very useful tools, the drill I needed to complete a honing task on the Honda Magna engine that I'm fixing up at the moment.
So.....like many of us would in my situation, I stumped up the $260 for a couple of new 3.0 amp hour 18v genuine Makita batteries....ouch!
But.....shortly after a viewer commented that it may be possible to bring the old batteries back to life & he sent me some instructions....bloody perfect I thought, we must give that a go!
I did a little more research & found that there are quite a few different methods kicking around KZfaq for this fix so I decided, since I have 4 dead batteries, to give a few of them a go & see which one seems to work the best (most successful so to speak).
This video covers the first & probably the most comprehensive option of bringing a Lithium Ion battery back to life. The instructions were clear & really explained the problem that is occurring inside the battery & how the 'fix' overcomes this...
In this video I cover the first of 4 methods so there will be at least another 3 videos on this subject, covering Fix #2, Fix #3 & Fix #4...
I'm hoping that one or two of you will find this Series of videos interesting & helpful towards you bringing your batteries back to life.

My partner has a lot of tools, so when he needed a circular saw, I ordered this one for him as a Christmas gift. kzfaq.infoUgkxYDKeIjKLOfcwTgdin7TtCutsz4MbIc43 He is incredibly happy with the purchase. He stated that he likes that it is powerful, but still easy to use and cuts very well. He mentioned that it is important to know the right tools for the job at hand, and this compact saw has been exactly what he needed for a variety of projects at his rental properties and renovations. He also appreciates the battery packs, as stated, he owns a lot of DEWALT tools, so he is able to always keep batteries charged as needed.

If you have a solar charger plate, the unloaded voltage is much higher. Let it sit on a poor pack for a day, and try your charger afterwards. I can't say it always works but it did for me.

In the In the beginning you were talking about Someone writing in And explaining The crystal whiskers that develop inside the cells I believe they were referring to Nickel cadmium And that's how they do those , And yeah The process there talking about Will work with those But that's not lithium ion Lithium ion are way different And quite dangerous That's why the bms had to be installed in the lithium batteries . If any lithium cell drops to or below 2 volts that bms opens the negative line to stop any charging , its a safety thing and if you open the battery or put test leads on the positive thermal and negative on one of the smaller cells you can actually see the voltage of each cell and 9 times out of 10 one or more cells have dropped below minimum so if you want to Magically "fix" the battery then maby you can balance charge each cell so all 5 in that 18v battery are at the same level then put it on its charger and it should charge up fine ,that is unless the bms is bad as sometimes it needs replacement but for the safety of your readers please read up on the types of batteries before giving out wrong information.

You can always use a relay through the 30/87a terminals its buzzing is fun and is alot faster more dangerous and probably still won't work Your better off swapping the cells around if you can get the battery open. Flashing the faulty cell directly has limited short term success, but through all the cells less success, buy new if you don't want to spend time in your workshop with hana :-)

some of the battery's have a pcb inside that count the time i t has been charged and stop charging after a set amount of charges . dont know if the makita ones do . but you can also open the battery up and change the cells inside. you can also that the pcb out of the battery and put your own charging balancing board and drop protection in

I'm pretty sure it's not the voltage across the main terminals that the charger is looking at when it determines whether the battery is too deeply discharged or faulty. Inside the pack, they have banks of 5 cells (more banks for more Ah) and there's a thin sensing wire between the negative and the first cells and the BM circuit board. So I expect it's looking for the voltage of the first cells, not the total. Edit: Also 34:32 It's not fully charged at 18V. That's just the nominal voltage. Voltage doesn't change a lot except at the extreme ends of the full charged/fully discharged range for lithium batteries.
@terminashunator
@terminashunator 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Andy, I checked the website and that's for NiCD batteries, not Lithium batteries. Also, Makita "18V" batteries are 5x 18650 cells, 3.6v nominal each cell, actual fully charged voltage is 21V. The reason the charger isn't charging it is because the computer in the battery flagged the battery as defective. The cells themselves could be okay, but the battery management circuit will ID the battery as bad to the charger.

If it came up to 18 volts with flicking the wire on and off why didn't you then put the battery in the tool it comes from and try it? an 18 volt reading indicates that it is fully charged.

Hi Andy,, fixed my problem with my quadbike. Turned out it was a battery problem so i reconditioned and all is back to normal. Wasn't the ICV after all. Saw a dumb prick playing with his car and he said he thought the ECU wasn't getting gull voltage needed on startup like my quad. Mine starts instantly now and no funny tricks. Reconditioned battery with a CTEK XS7000 charger. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

The PCB inside the battery will often 'brick' the battery....like if the battery was hot and put in the charger for three tries or more. Nothing to be done then except buy a new PCB and replace your old. When the old PCB 'bricks' the battery, it is forever with that original PCB.
