Lithuania Will Get An Ammunition Factory!?

Everyone’s talking about defence and geopolitics these days. One thing I’ve seen a few Lithuanians discuss in the comments section of my videos is the need for the country to develop its own defence industries. Not only will it allow the country to keep more of its military spending inside the country, but it will no doubt also help to ensure Lithuanian and allied forces are well-stocked to deter Russian aggression.

I hope local pensioners in Baisogala don't start protesting again the factory as that is sadly pretty common occurrence in the country

They have a right to do that if they feel that the factory might negatively impact their town, like, for example, building the factory on a land that was used for rehabilitating and researching on animals.

Fingers crossed, this deal actually goes ahead and the factory will get built. Europe in general needs to have more military capability which it abandoned for most part since the end of the Cold War. The reality is that there is no such thing as "reaping the benefits of peace" if you don't have military capability. Germany had ~3000 Leopard 2 tanks in 1990. Now it has ~200. It will need to get back into the thousands again to start looking anything more than a joke. The ammunition factory in Lithuania should be just one small cogwheel in the European defence capability.

First of all such factory will not be stationed in the town itself. Rather way away from it and other residential buildings. It will not be easy to find the place. I foresee the active involvement of Russian intelligence instilling opposition to it including initiating local protest movement. They know how to do it, it did happen before, and not once.

@@Semtino They want to build it in Lithuania - this is the main trigger for Russia. There is no info about factory to be built in the town - safety requirements for such facilities are very strict with vast safety zone around the perimeter.

Lithuania should deffo build its own defence industry, we a small country we should focus on making advanced weapons our relationship with Taiwan would greatly help with that

We should be as self sufficient as we can be, so when it comes to it we can survive for as long as it takes for external help to arrive. The history can yet repeat itself and we can be just 'given away' to ruskies yet again by our current allies (the last 100 years prove that aliances shift from deepest friendships to animocify of cold war).

So they have more or less wasted money without solving the issue? Splendid! To make ammo you have to have resources for it, lithuania has NONE, or it's so scarce it's be very costly to dig up and easy to disrupt, you end up importing resources/ammo anyway. Not only that, practice has shown imported products end up CHEAPER, good example of that is Pilos dairy products from poland, 3 times less expensive than ANYTHING Lithuania produces. Or for example drillbits, they are produced in lithuania, raw post production cost is 3 euro, they are instead sent to germany for re-packaging, and they come back to us costing 13 euro. So question remains! What did building the factory solve?

I don't think it's a good idea by the government to openly say where the factory will be located. And like everything, it's should have been done at least a year ago.
