We spent the weekend over south of Hardin, MT on the weekend anniversary of the Battle of Little Bighorn, June 25, 1876. We also attended a re-enactment put on by a Crow family between Crow Agency and Garryowen off of I-90. There were lots of horses and old guns but it was fascinating to hear the events explained from the native peoples' perspective. We also went up to the Big Horn County Museum in Hardin where we saw a cannon fired and a working Gatling Gun and then on Sunday, took a tour over at the Rosebud Battle site which occurred one week prior to Little Bighorn. We had a fascinating weekend and I had a bit of time to do a walk at the Little Bighorn Battlefield. I of course couldn't film the whole monument nor did I try to give a historic tour but I thought it was a good chance to give an idea of what the infamous battle might have looked like almost 150 years ago.
I'm currently reading "Keep the Last Bullet for Yourself" by Thomas Marquis and it's a fascinating read. I'm hoping to read up more from other sources as well.

My Story: I'm a filmmaker by trade. In 2016, we sold our house to go traveling for the year in Europe. Since I couldn't work there, I decided to start another KZfaq Channel. I love walking as a way to explore and this was an easy thing to share. It got popular and I've continued. My goal is to share these treadmill travel videos to help your work out with virtual walks.

Great video! It’s amazing to think such a bloody battle took place is such a beautiful place. Gary Owen and Fiddler’s Green to the troopers. To the Indian Warriors, much respect.

Good point. The paradox of those two things is pretty stunning. If you ever get a chance to visit, it really is a beautiful landscape especially in the morning and evening. Also, go check out the Rosebud battlefield not too far away. That was the one for a couple days before hand. - H.

Hello and thank you Henry. I realized after watching this video that since I have followed you for so long, I now have a favorite time of year in Montana, which I guess is now. This is a lovely park, and I am glad it exists. I am troubled that a segment of our citizens find it unpatriotic to talk about the most unflattering moments of American history, but to be brutally honest, if you a person doesn't care about all American citizens, then I don't believe they have the right to dictate what is patriotic. Thanks for the respectful walk and showing me more of the world. Take care.

Hi Tom, and I agree with you. While I usually keep my leanings out of these walks, I'm a Lefty and I specifically fly the American flag out front because of what it should represent, instead of what some have made it represent. Thanks for your words and support. June is always a crapshoot out here. This year it's been lovely but it could be very rainy (especially the first half) or very dry like last year. But watching everything turn green and sunny brings joy to the heart after a long winter. All the best -H

My wife and I bought a Montana property a couple of years ago, and discovered your channel around the same time - which has been giving us all sorts of ideas for places we want to visit in and around Montana. Keep up the good content and thank you so much! However, imagine my surprise to discover this specific video, since I was just there at Little Bighorn Battlefield a couple of weeks ago! Then I realized you were there close to the date that I was… same day in fact. Then you announced the time - 11am - that you began your walk, which was right around the time I was there. Finally, my wife and I were both dropped-jawed to see myself walk into your frame at the 7:22 mark, at which point I remember seeing you with your video camera - but didn’t realize you were actually recording a City Walks video! As always, a wonderful video - and it was great to be there with you, even if we haven’t been formally introduced.

Hi Mitch, welcome to Montana. Glad you were able to get in before the prices really exploded. So funny that you saw me and remember seeing me. I’ve had a few people point out themselves or friends in these videos but usually many months later. I thought about getting a hat or T-shirt to wear as I walk but I’m a little too shy for that. If you see me around, maybe you’ll recognize me and you can say hi. I’d love to meet you in person. Thanks so much for the comment and glad you are enjoying these videos. Thanks - H

Custer is buried at West Point. He did say that he did not know much about the battle, so that what he could share is limited. Too bad he left out the Reno-Benteen site.

@@CityWalks Thanks for the follow-up. My last trip there was 1994. Back then you could drive to the Reno encampment at the end of the road. Am I to assume that the park does not allow cars to use the road any longer? Too bad. It is a long way, especially in the heat. The Second time I visited the monument, I was determined to walk to the Reno site from Custer Hill. I made it to Reno's site, but as the day moved on it got hotter and hotter and on the way back some kindly people in a truck stopped to ask me if I needed a ride...I took them up on it and made it back to Custer Hill alive. Back then, very little signage, but by walking you got a feeling for the lay of the land. Today, I could barely make it up to Custer Hill, let alone the Deep Ravine trail that you took. I am just glad that you had a good time. I did like your commentary, as it was like talking to a friend. On my visits there were never this many people at the monument, but I realize that this was around June 25th, and they have special activities. And like you said, with Yellowstone closed, more traffic would be diverted to the Custer Monument.
@CityWalks
@CityWalks 2 жыл бұрын
@@H.pylori Actually, you can still drive out there (or ride a bike which would be fun) but I didn't want to break up the walk, it's a long one, especially without any shade. Thanks again and I'll try to remember to try to do a walk out that way next time I'm through. Cheers -H
