Little House on the Prairie actors Melissa Gilbert, Alison Arngrim, and Karen Grassle gave a panel at Fanboy Expo Knoxville to discuss this classic show, their experiences, and to answer fan questions.
Melissa Gilbert was Laura Ingalls (and eventually Laura Ingalls Wilder) on Little House on the Prairie, and is also known for Stand by Your Man, Tenure, Batman: The Animated Series, Sweet Justice, Babylon 5, and Secrets and Lies to name a few.
Alison Arngrim portrayed Nellie Oleson (and eventually Nellie Oleson Dalton) on Little House on the Prairie, but is also known for I Married Wyatt Earp, Livin’ on a Prairie, Make the Yuletide Gay, and Even in Dreams.
Karen Grassle played Caroline Ingalls (and Laura’s mom) on Little House on the Prairie, and is also known for roles on Murder, She Wrote, Hotel, The Love Boat, Gunsmoke, and The President’s Mistress.

Karen Grassle was the unsung hero of that show. She took what could have been a nothing role and infused it with warmth and strength and sincerity. I remember listening to some of Caroline’s lines and thinking how they would have sounded fake or corny in lesser hands. But Karen sold them. A fine actor.

I think Karen Grassle looked a lot like the real Caroline Ingalls, although prettier. But she has what Laura wrote to describe her mother, “when she smiled, the sun came out.” Karen has that kind of smile.

Yeah, apparently she was a very "loving" young woman back in the day...Way ahead of her time, even to the point that "Buck Rogers In The 25th Century" gave her gonorrhea during one her cheating flings. She admits to being a big fan of Mexico's climate...and abortion clinics. Wholesome family fun...Woo Hoo!

I just love the friendship that exists to this day of Melissa Gilbert and Allison Arngrim. They bring shared stories of humor and memories from this beloved series. I am glad I grew up during this period of time to watch the first run episodes as a girl.

So true and I agree with you about the friendship between Melissa and Allison. It's very real and I love it! In Allison's autobiography book called Confessions of a Prairie Bitch..., she explains in detail how that all started. It's a great read! :)

I completely agree. Yes we loved to hate Nellie as they were growing up. However, of all the shows and scenes they had with each other, my absolute favorite is Nellie Returns. I wished they would had more scenes in that episode together. The friendship that these two had developed after being frenemies was outstanding. I love the part where Nellie goes to visit Laura, Laura comes out of the house and calls her name, they run to each other and hug. Nellie admits to Laura that she misses her, and Laura replies back, Ahhh I miss you too. Then Nellie says I can't believe we're saying this to each other, do you remember how we used to fight? Laura, I sure do. I just loved that whole exchange.

This was just priceless. The feelings that this show emoted, to see beloved actors reminisce on what touched everyone. Do you think there is a giant hole in this nation's conscience, lacking in a moral anchor? This show will fill it. Melissa Gilbert looks FABULOUS!

This was really nice and done in a dignified way and I really enjoyed it! My favorite episode was the wheelchair down the hill! We all wanted to see Nellie get her just deserts! It was soul-satisfying! 🤣

Wish they would make a new series that catches up with the "Little House" characters later in their lives! Laura Ingalls Wilder's life was incredible till the end! Someone needs to write a new series for Ma, Nellie and Laura... bring back these talented actors to the roles that made them famous. Create a new mini series that would become an all time classic! This story is not finished. Seriously, they need to do it!

It was great to see this...we are from Spain and watched it with my children and the neighbourhood children every Sunday afternoon it was our church...now my husband and I are now 78 Pastors of an evangelical church and every evening at home we watch "Little house on the Prairie" in spanish!!...with our 13 and 9 year old grandchildren and they are so enjoying it....thku all very much...the Lord bless you all...

Come on MANm, Melissa Gilbert without LHOTP is *"NOTHING"* , PERIOD. No ACCLAIM to *ANYTHING* thereafter, to be mentioned GREAT in anything. These REMNANTS to this DAY are still trying to be VIABLE, even if they have to TALK-DOWN on previous cast mates, EVEN the DEAD ONES.

Yes, she was. Melissa Gilbert, was by far, one of the best, child actors in Hollywood. Loved her as, Half pint. There couldn’t have been anyone, to play, that role, better than Melissa Gilbert. She deserved a Emmy for her, portrayal as Laura Ingalls.

I remember Sunday afternoons in Glasgow, Scotland in the 70s. Glen Michael's Cartoon Cavalcade, followed by Scotsport and then Little House on the Prairie. I loved the rivalry with the Olsens.

That was really great. I never knew that Allison's family was in Knoxville. During little house I grew up in LaFollette so to see those three just 35-40 miles from where I grew up on this podcast is wonderful. I would really like to visit Simi valley and the other shooting locations where those three and the rest of the crew actually made the show someday. Mrs. Olson was my favorite because she was so laughably irritating and you knew she was acting. I couldn’t wait to see her reaction to things. I liked when Caroline would calmly put her in her place with firmness, calmness and confidence.

I grew up watching the show and my dad read the books to me at bed time. I can’t bring myself to watch the show again. The show was very good. I don’t know why I can’t watch again. A lot has happened since I watched the show for the first time - it’s too emotional for me.

LOVED watching the show growing up. I must be weird because I was team Nellie and Harriet all the way. What fun it must have been to play those roles. You couldn't hate them but you hated them, ya know? I'm so so sad Katherine McGregor has passed and didn't have a chance to participate in these reunions. I heard her personality was huge and I bet she'd have been entertaining to listen to.

I didn't like Nellie when I was growing up. As an an adult I like her and Harriet so much more because it allows me to teach my children. There are many parallels with those characters to people we encounter in life and it allows us to discuss things. For example, Harriet defends Nellie, takes her side and believes her no matter what, and she cannot fathom her little girl lying to her. Well, there are people like that. It's therapeutic and comical to see Nellie and Harriet. It helps. It helps make the world make sense. As long as my kids don't act like Nellie before meeting her husband, they're allowed to watch.

Would Be a Good Thing is Little House Was Brought Back (as is the Trend With Reviving Old Shows, ) Doesnt Matter if THE TOWN BURNED DOWN, ,, That Could Be Explained in a Dream Sequence as DALLAS Did Years Ago With Their Cliffhanger!!. The New Show Could Focus On Nellie & Her Children, & How Cute Would it Be For Nellies Daughter To Be Even Brattier Than She Was!! Also Laura, Almanzo, Rose , Mary, Carrie, Grace, There Are So Many Characters To Work With ... Rose Would Be a Great Focal Point as She Was a Famous Book Writer & Worked For a Newspaper!!!!

Si joyeuses et amies💞 Merci à Karen qui m'a donnée l'exemple d'une maman et d'une femme aimante et dévouée à sa famille💞 La Petite Maison dans la Prairie devrait être bénie, tant ils ont tous été des modèles, j'ai 63 ans et ne me suis jamais lassée de regarder les épisodes 💝💖 C'est comme pour moi, un antidépresseur, dans un monde qui change trop vite et dont les valeurs se perdent. 🙏 Une jolie pensée pour Mikaël et tous ceux qui sont partis💝💞💖🙏🕯😘😘😘

The ensemble of actors in LHOTP were great every single one, each playing their part beautifully. Alison must have had some difficulty from the shows fans because she was so darn great acting the nelly part as was the actress who played her mom Mrs Olson, where as Melissa and Karen were probably treated like sweet smelling delicate flowers, Lol.

Could you imagine if they did some continuous story. The surviving members living their age but that time period.. I don't think it would hurt the story at all. They already did sequel movies
