Yup. I know. The name change is intentional. If you watched St Elsewhere (the show this opening is modeled after), The name "St Elsewhere" was the name locals gave the hospital (St Eligus) because they were sent there when no other hospital would take them ("Take them to St Elsewhere!"). So like in St Elsewhere, I changed the name of the town to something slightly different. I had a few names I thought of here.. St Prairie. St Grove, Plum Creek and others. I thought this one worked the best because of your comment "that's not right". Plus Walnut Creek is a well known town in California. To sum it: It's intentional to make people go "why is it named that".
