Flavours of Deepavali Saturday, Of course, food is an important part of Deepavali, so if you fancy making your own sweets and savouries, head to this event which is at the Indian Heritage Centre on 13th October
The spirit of the season, NARAN. For the first time in Little India’s heartland a CAMPFIRE! Get up close & cosy with the spirit of the season, Naran. And hear the story of Deepavali come to life. On October 20th, at Clive Street
Playstreet After Dark Saturday, 03rd November at Clive Street. Also in Clive Street on 3rd November draw your favourite food on lanterns. As the lanterns grow in number, I’m sure this will look spectacular.
Movie Razzmatazz Saturday, 10 November Promenade @ Indian Heritage Centre 7.30pm I love outdoor movies and this year there will be at an outdoor screen at the Indian Heritage centre. Check out the official Facebook page for details of films and timings. The link is above.
The Silk Roots. If you fancy some great music, head to the Heritage Centre on November 17th. The Silk Roots is a group of talented Singaporean composers and musicians. The night ends the with spectacular fire dancing. This sounds like one not to be missed
And finally, of course, the spectacular street lights, which this year run for 60 days. The best place to see them is Serangoon Road, and they really are looking magnificent this year

*Fun facts about Deepavali- the festival of lights:* Let's begin with the meaning of Deepavali, in Tamil; Deepam (Lamps) + Aavali (array/ an impressive display) = Deepavali. Deepavali festivities are celebrated with lights, on the day before the "New Moon" darkest night (ஜப்பசி- சதுர்த்தசி அமாவாசைக்கு முன் தினம்) in the Tamil month of Aippasi (seventh month in the Tamil calendar from the middle of October to November around 15th). Deepavali is a festival that is celebrated throughout India (different states with different names/ different beliefs), Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Nepal, Sindu region in Pakistan, Fiji, Mauritius, South Africa and other parts of the world where larger Tamil and Indian communities resides, for e.g. UK, USA, throughout Europe & Australia. The significance of Deepavali, to light up to welcome the souls of our ancestors & also to flight the negative vibes within us with the positive spirit of the lamps. Deepavali celebration is the outcome of love, peace and unity. Advance & Happy Deepavali! இனிய தீபாவளி நல்வாழ்த்துக்கள்! 🙏☺🎊
