It all comes to this...the fifth and final turn our our epic, 8 month-long Pyrrhic War campaign. Pyrrhus enters the final year of the war with a slight lead in victory points, but seeks to deliver a knockout blow by doing the unthinkable and capturing Rome herself. Can Steve, playing Pyrrhus of Epirus, rewrite history and defeat the republic? Or will a new consul summon the skill, luck, and cunning needed to save Rome and flip the war on its head?
This is the conclusion of a 5-part video series, spanning the complete duration of the Pyrrhic War. It's a wargaming experience unlike anything you've seen on KZfaq before, full of maneuver, diplomacy, sieges, and massive tabletop battles! The campaign rules are available for FREE on the official LWTV website, while the tabletop wargame rules, called "Age of Hannibal," are also available on our site in print or PDF format:
www.littlewarstv.com
The Pyrrhic War campaign series is presented without KZfaq ads or interruption, courtesy of our amazing Patreon supporters. Thank you, team! Most of the music throughout the series are original compositions by Sebastien Angel. We want to thank Sebastien, artist Jose Moran, and all four expert historians who joined us for interviews: Adrian Goldsworthy, Denis Feeney, Myke Cole, and Michael Taylor. Finally, a shout out to Ancient Warfare Magazine for collaborating with artwork on our Pyrrhic War series!

A fantastic outcome. In as much as I want to say 'it was inevitable with Pyrrhus's troop depletions and incapability to reinstate lost troops' Steve's dice absolutely favored him, and his tactics repeatedly blew everything everyone else had out of the water. The ambush at the last moment was absolutely a butt-pucker of a moment for Chalinnatus and the viewer, even if the bleeding of his troops from event to event lead to the collapse and withdrawal. Kudos, gentlemen, and thank you for the videos, they're a pleasure.

One more point... I absolutely love how your entire club helps develop the narrative. From a small battle like Trenton to the five table multiple army campaign of Marengo to your epic Pyrrhic war featuring four Consuls and one Dictator, you guys are about telling the story and not about kill counts or maxxed characters. I found wargaming twenty years ago through Warhammer Fantasy. Four things bothered me (there were others, but these are the main four)... 1) during a battle, I filled the roles of CinC, General, Hero, Wizard, and Unit Champion... which prohibited a single perspective, 2) there were no rules to simulate command and control... I had complete control over every single unit, 3) other players did not want to paint their minis, and 4) individual army books with special rules lead to frustrated players.... too many irresistible forces meeing too many immovable objects. All of these precluded an interesting and engaging narrative. I was then introduced to a fantasy version of Piquet... not the official version... a version developed by one of the original play testers. There are only four of us who play this game, but we have a blast. I am the CinC, but I can only affect brigade commanders, heroes, wizards, and monsters when allowed... and as the battle progresses, that is less and less. It becomes a story of why the Ratmen and Orcs fought over a forest, or why the Giant Ape switched sides, or how General Rumptooter rallied an entire Dwarf brigade. Anyway, I just wanted to say that you guys know how to keep the story at the forefront. Well done.

To be fair Pyrrhus winning some sort of negotiated victory and becoming the ruler of Magna Graecia(or at least having heavy influence over it under some league of city states) and potentially curbing Roman influence in Syracuse and kicking out Carthage would have been interesting also. So I guess the big question is if Pyrrhus will be returning as the main star in one of his other campaigns, or merely as another player in a larger struggle for supremacy of the ancient world. I personally would love to see a campaign where each of the club members take on the role of one of Alexanders successors, using not only military force but diplomatic guile to secure domination of Alexanders former empire as alliances constantly shift as they seek to gain an advantage or knock whoever is getting too powerful down a peg.

I must congratulate the whole LWTV team with this effort. So much work put in to this production. As a patreon, I am proud to be in the position to contribute to this channel. As happened before, the downside is that I am now working on my ancient army. Never ever played this period before, but you have inspired me (again). And off course I have ordered the Age of Hannibal rules 🙂.

I've read Goldworthy, a good writer and Historian. I have never played a "table top" wargame but these videos have been fun to watch.

Outstanding campaign and great video! Thanks Little Wars TV! It would seem that the God's are fickle, leaving Pyrrhus and Greece without a Victory. Perhaps another time....!
